Stick with it!
You'll be missing out on a part of what makes thief what it is if you skip bonehoard. The feeling you'll get when you finally can get the f**k out of there is priceless!
Ahh the sound of the horn in the distance the echoing footsteps of the zombies, awesome! :cheeky:
Also the level is such a cool map, excellent design, did you ever play Thieves guild? I liked that mission, but *that* was endless tunnels! :p I found that one hard to stick with.
by the way welcome and cool nickname, Titus Groan is my favorite book :thumb:

Yes, like beginning that mission. Peering down at Mr. Zombie. Stopping, having a slow cigarette, the smoke obscuring the monitor in lazy blue spirals, as if in protest.
There's the planks. There's the rope.
Time for another cigarette. :tsktsk:
Fortitude, Garrett...have at it, damn you.
Try this. Instead of the rope down to Mr.Z, go to the far edge and look down. There is a statue to the left. Jump to the head of the statue, then to the floor. If you do it right, no pain and you have passed the first obstacle.
Once up the stairs, go to the fountain pick up some Holy water. Ignore the corpse in the next set of rooms and drop through the hole by the door.
From there it's take your time, think it through and pretend you are a little mousie after the cheese with the cat sleeping right next to it.
Crouch, tap-tap-tap the walk key. You can sneak past nearly anything that way, if you watch for niches to duck into, and don't panic.
PS: Learn to hold your breath. Comes in very handy through out the level, including the first pools you see.

or just speed run. Zombies are slow! I rarely expend any equipment when playing bonehoard, cos running away is so much easier!
There's an infinite fireball launcher trap. Just lure zombies there. And be sure that their remains are not pressed into a wall, or the game will freeze or slowdown.
I think that some people have a problem with the 'just run' tactic because they end up scared of turning around and seeing all the zombies coming after Garrett.
But then you just need to just run some more!

You clearly have taste.

Well, I presented Garrett with your ideas as we settled down for the night near a luminmous mushroom in the very corner of one very cozy tunnel, surrounded by tunnels. Indeed, a tunnel with a view, one could say. Our frugal supper, a carrot and a haunch of vension, rotten, didn't lift our spirits.
Garrett: "What do you mean, 'Walkthrough'? How else? Perhaps I should climb that rope again and rent a horse from Auldale? What's the matter with you?"
Me: "No. You're not getting it. No horses. This isn't Oblivion."
Me: "Be thankful". My eye twinkled in the feint mushroom-light.
A face obscured by a boiled leather hood and a week's growth of stubble revealed no expression. One had to rely upon verbal feedback instead. Thus, he growled.
"You make no sense".
Me: "Look, do you want this blasted Horn of Quintus or don't you?"
I leaned closer to him, whispering as a conspirator.
Somewhere, deeper in the tunnels, a Burrick farted.
"It's worth a bit, they tell me. Your fences' appreciation and admiration will rise to pantegruelian proportions, especially the one that, to me, sounds much like Mae West, God rest her soul."
I crossed myself. Garrett chewed thoughtfully upon his maggotty venison in silence. And darkness. For as I stretched out a little to relieve some small back-ache, I had kicked our solitary luminous mushroom, thus extinguishing its garish, although useful, light.
I lit up a cigarette as a reward. Sometimes a cigarette can be your best friend.
We're still here days later. I'm running out of carrots, 'cause he's nicking them from me in my sleep.
We'll keep you posted.

:laff: Could possibly help you out with a few extra carrots.

The best way to get over the fear of a mission is to print off a comprehensive walkthrough and follow it to the letter.
That's what I do and it works a treat.

About the Bonehoard, is it possible to "ghost" the whole mission ? There are so many foes...
theBlackman on 13/9/2007 at 19:57
No. Some of the required items and actions on the Expert level prevent you from not alerting, or getting attacked by the AI.

Bonehoard - I used to hate it. I always got lost, but of course as I've played it repeatedly I've come to appreciate the level, and even like it to some degree. I'd love to see this level and The Sword recreated in The Dark Mod when it's released.
Anyway, Bonehoard is the source of my all-time favorite Garrett quote:
"It's a long way down"
