I assume the unused money actually did go towards rent.

We aren't talking about things specific to the Dark Engine or 1990s game tropes, but design choices
regardless of the engine.

I'd actually like to see a real economy in play for Garrett's life, with rent and food outgoings as well as equipment costs.
I don't know how it'd work or what the effects of failure would be but it'd make a bit more sense than 1000s of loot disappearing.

I for one am skeptically optimistic about the game.
Loved the first two Thief games and enjoyed the third one despite its shortcomings. :)
Not to mention all the great FMs that came out for all 3 games plus The Dark Mod. Awesome times! :D
Ah, lets see what happens with this new game. :)

I know I shall be slaking my thirst upon the sweet tears of rage and anguish.

Yeah it would make sense, but it would be crappily done and only be half balanced due to time constraints. Kind of like the entire city hub in the third game.
I'd rather there not even be a hub in the new game. I just know it'll be full of imbalancing money and equipment. The great thing about the original games was that you could never go in with a full loadout. You always had to make decisions like taking 2 gas arrows or a few flash bombs.

Man, the hub is the most exciting-sounding thing about the new game, as far as I am concerned.

Depends on how it's done. In theory it sounds good, though it also sounds very Assassin's Creed-ish.
SubJeff on 13/4/2013 at 22:51
How so?
If the hub city is large, like that in Batman AC (and why shouldn't it be), and detailed it could be great.
I'd still like well created self-contained missions though, because a game like Thief needs a lot of detail.
Renzatic on 13/4/2013 at 23:58
From the way it sounds, the hub is more as an interlude to keep the gameplay going than it is a hugely detailed city. There are a few places you can visit on your own accord for side quests and whatnot, but mostly it's just a fancy way to funnel you between missions.
