Thief Reloaded Contest FM: The Revenge of Lt Hagen by FireMage (05 Feb 2011) - by Sagittal

These bombs are driving me crazy! I haven't activated any hidden levers so that shouldn't be the problem. But after talking to Sammy i find that the two bombs on the first floor (main office and barracks) are activated (dial turned fullly clockwise) so i deactivate them. But the two on the second floor (officer's lounge and Mosley's office) are not activated (dial turned fully anticlockwise). Yet an explosion happens anyway somewhere. I don't get it!
Something about these bombs is clearly malfunctioning so i'm going to drop this mission until the author get's this fixed or someone explains to me what i'm doing wrong.

Check the
floor of the big storeroom just off the Waiting Room and round corner from Evidence Storage door.
I've already got the
"Evidence Storage Key" but it wouldn't open the door where Malcom is supposed to beQuote Posted by The Elusive One

I didn't even deactivate all the bombs then I met this guy near the barricaded house and the objective checked off

Sammy appeared in
Main Desk area and run to the place not far from abandoned house. I don't understand much of what he says, but I got the objective
to not let bombs explode.
and therein is the malf - if u just up and kill Sammy - thereby avoiding the convo with him - it does'nt trigger the whole bomb aspect!
Please Firemage - get out your screwdrivers and tighten this puppy up okay? :)

Could someone please tell me how Malcolm is dressed.
[Edit] Never mind. Unfortunately I'm going to have to admit defeat. I find the bomb sequence impossible. They blow up regardless of where the pointer is pointing and I can't find Malcolm anywhere in the short space of time available before I fail somehow without a cross in any of the boxes. And the un-knockoutable guard will insist on walking past the barracks at the moment that bomb goes off so I constantly fail that goal. I have no gas weapons left to put him to sleep and remove him to somewhere safe either. I have spent a couple of hours trying various combinations and I think that's enough.
I would very much like to see this re-released with the glitches and the crashes fixed. Excellent story and fun game play despite the hiccups.

I am finished !
Finally I defeated this mission - even without taking shortcuts in order to skip the bomb sequence or something like that.
The logic with the bombs is beyond my comprehension, though.
I disabled the 2 bombs on ground level and proceeded upwards.
None of these bombs seemed to be enabled, so I did not touch any of these 3 bombs on the higher levels.
However one did go off, but I had to find out which one it was.
Once I figured out it was none of the bombs on the upper levels I returned to the lower level.
And I found: the 2 bombs downstairs were active again !!
What ??? Why is that ???
I disabled them a second time and got all time needed to return to Sammy's abandoned apartment.
Can someone else confirm this ???
Thanks for this mission, FireMage !

I did'nt skip the bomb bit on purpose!
When I finally saw Sammy in the Reception room (after killing the guy down below), I simply did what I was sposed to!
Namely -
kill him! :ebil: ;)
And I don't think Firemage applied logic to the defusing method - unless what happened to you is just situ # xxxxxx in whats poss when the construction is allowed to be done so loosely! :p

Well I hate giving up so I tried again following what you did gnartsch but it didn't work and the Barracks bomb has just gone off. It hasn't hurt anyone but I'm trapped in the room as I wanted to see if it reset itself. It didn't, but perhaps I'm mistaking set for unset. Can you tell me which position this one is in.
Inline Image:
http://i52.tinypic.com/309j1jl.jpgIf I frob it, the pointer moves round to the right hand blob and then the small dial starts moving and when it reaches the right hand blob - bang. So perhaps it's unset although it's pointing at 30. All the bombs are in this position. Perhaps because Malcolm is nowhere to be found he didn't actually set them? There is an unfrobbable body in Evidence Storage but that's been there from the beginning.
But did you finish the mission GS? Did you kill Sammy before he delivered his message?

Malcom is
on the upper floor after Sammy was killed :tsktsk:

OK, thank you. I'll ignore the bombs for now.

I finished the mission!
I saw Sammy - in well lighted area so I knew I couldnt get to him before he flew to Deepstone and I KNEW I'd crash AGAIN if I went out into that big plaza area - so I just let fly a Fire arrow!
Sammy burn soooo nice!!! :ebil:\
Normally I don't like to miss out on things an FM creator comes up with - like bomb defusing - but until Firemage gets all the lil eyes crossed and tees dotted - I was just glad to get finished!
Was expecting that at any min, Constatine would suddenly appear and scream "What the hell am I doing in an FM? You, in blue over there, did you do this to me?" and then come a running while morphin into the trickster! :cheeky:
(hey, the way my run of this FM was goin - anything would be possible! hah!!)
