We haven't forgotten about this! Truth be told, it's surprisingly difficult to track this down. One would think things had been properly backed up and archived but it's not the case. With Looking Glass closing its doors and Eidos' ups and downs through the years and people coming and going to and from different ends of the earth, we are still searching.
I'll keep you posted!!
And this coming from Eidos Montreal. Seems they are *looking* we'll see.

Is TDP even sold in any market form anymore? I mean, Eidos doesnt use steam, I don't think...
Well, they do use that one online game service, not for tdp, I don't think.
But still, the only places you'd find any Thief game at would be a second-hand thrift/flea market/video store, and I doubt Eidos keeps a list of any of those places and what they stock that belongs to them (Eidos).
So... How does recreating a game that has long since left the main game market kill a company that has only just now taken genuine interest in starting the series up again?!
EDIT: (

But still, there IS Black Mesa: Source. That (I'd hope) is proof enough we could do something similar...
Well, what about a Rethinking of the original game? Like, with the advancement of OpenDarkEngine or TDM, We could make something that captures the spirit of the original games, afresh and brand new for all those pc game magazines. Hell, We'd pull off all the stops: Awesome soundtrack, Great Voice Acting, and all the phizzle and shnizzle that would appeal (to a degree) to maybe the larger percentage of more open-minded Hard Core Gamers...
Yay? Nay?

I, for one, think that a TDP remake would be cool, though I expect it would have to be done in TMA.

I mean, T2X was an TC at best (A really good one, not to discredit the t2x team :thumb:), and I'm talking about reimagining things: Adding new weapons, new ideas for maps, and taking the game to places the originals could only imagine. Redesign the map system (a tad bit too ambitious, but it'd help) so that we could design maps simiular to those in Morrowind or um, whats that ps3 game with the hackey-sack things? yeah, Little Big Planet... Um, thats a poor example, but I love it...

You're not listening Albert. Valve know about Black Mesa and are happy to let it happen. I don't care what you think about them - the fact is they are not stopping the Black Mesa: Source team.
Did you ever hear about Sapphire Scar? (I think that was its name). It was a Doom3 mod set in the System Shock universe and I think they were told to stop by the IP owners.
You cannot "remake" a game without the IP owner's blessing and that is that. FMs made with DromEd, Thief 3 Ed and even TDM may take things from Thief but that's very different to doing a full remake.
Having said all this I do think that one day someone will remake Thief, in the same way as we have new versions of all sorts of games (Doom, Wolfenstein, Bionic Commando and so on). I just hope they do it when proper full VR is working.

You must've misread the direction I'm now taking...
If such an occurrence like you just stated did occur, it's best likely that if any remake were to be made, it would rethink the entire thief universe (Not a modern remake, but something a little different), in a way that we could easily extend the environments of the game and meet the level of creativity that only game companies like Croteam and Valve have been renown for so far, and keep the spirit of the original series in mind... none of that sissy TDS crap here... :D
And yes, it wouldn't pain Eidos to know that it exists.

whatever

The reimagining you're talking about, you're basically describing The Dark Mod. A thiefy game, without using specific places/characters from the official Thief games. id should release the source code for Doom 3 soon, and at that point the possibilities are endless. I have to admit though, I still don't have a real solid grip on what you're looking for.

:erm: :tsktsk: :nono: These debates are lopsided at best...
