Greetings all.
I started to play Thief in late 1999 or maybe early 2000 and was hooked right away. Thief was my kind of game. It was a demo and after having played it too many times to count I decided to try and find the entire game in a shop. It was shortly after Thief Gold had been released. I still remember the mixed feelings I had when I held it in my hands.
“Had I bought a pc game that I really couldn’t play? It’s my first pc game ever so was it too much of a challenge? All these weird creatures and opponents? Will I ever be able to finish this?”
But of course I did finish it and by then the second game had been released and I got my copy right away and played like mad for weeks. It was also then that I found TTLG but found it out of my league. I couldn’t understand some of the issues being discussed nor the pictures I saw. I hadn’t realized that these were fan made missions. So I let them be for the time being.
Another year or so went by and my curiosity got the better of me. I suddenly understood the not only were there two official games out there but also missions made by fans. This I had to take part of. The rest is history, as they say. SirFreddieM emerged. Since then I have played most of the missions out there, some more than once and always with pleasure. But you taffers know what I mean.
Like so many taffers before me real life issues “forced” me to put Thief in the background from time to time. Other games took my attention as well. But I visited the world of Thief on and off and always loved being back. The past year or so I have not played Thief or any game at all. Then came NewDark.
I decided to try this out and my love for Thief came thundering back. All of a sudden Thief is all I play, all I think of, all I do. It has affected me so much that I have decided to play all missions from 2005. Why that year I can’t really tell but that is beside the point. All I can say is that I’m having a blast and the time of my life.
Long Live Thief. :thumb:

I wonder how many people who played thief years ago still don't know this site exists? I wonder how many younger people don't even know the game exists? Graphics isn't everything.

You are not alone, my friend! Though I've never gone a year without playing Thief / Thief FMs, there have been times I've set them aside to focus on other games (recent games, my Steam and GOG backlogs...). But Thief always sneaks its way back into my life, and I forget that there are new games coming out anymore as all I play for several weeks are Thief FMs. I could get mad about falling behind on current games, or I could realize that the best gaming experiences around are probably still Thief FMs. :thumb:

Funny thing is, that Thief was my first try at a pc-game. The idea of sneaking around turned out to be so like me that I tried to stealth my way through everyday situations. But most importantly the use of the Blackjack was just up my alley. Whenever a person at work ignores me or something worse I love to imagine that persons face on all guards before the they get a taste of my Blackjack!!!!!
Also all other games I have had fun with over the years are being compared to the fantastic gameplay that Thief has. :ebil:

Except for some fantastic FMs there is nothing that compares with Thief. TDP, GOLD and TMA are still the best. Welcome back to the fold, Sir Freddie!

I discovered it last year, when took my T2 copy from 10 year dust. I could not believe it. It was like Atlantida, like a hidden civilization I did not know about. That is why I feel Thief is eternal. I am now trying to see what have I missed.

You missed more than 1000 FM's!
I just replayed T3 and it was better than I thought it to be, when it came out. :)

Can totally relate SirFreddieM. As much as I enjoy other games (esp. stealth or ones that can be sneaked) - nothing, for me, compares to Thief. Ah, I never get bored of playing the originals or FMs (revisiting a fave FM currently) - and jump for joy every time a new FM is released (Gawd bless ya authors!). Happy taffing :thumb: and hear, hear, Long Live Thief!
