(
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/) CrossOver is an application for Apple Macintosh OSX that allows Intel-based Macs to run Windows programs.
I've recently bought a MacBook Pro and am trying out Beta3 of Crossover. This morning I tried installing and playing Thief TDP and was suprised that it works - pretty much flawlessly! In fact the issues that plague the game in Windows XP / with modern PCs do not exist.
No -lgntforce switch required.
No dual-core processor freezes.
No texture memory errors.
No issues playing movies.
The only issue at the moment is that fullscreen only really works at 640x480. Other resolutions work but they disappear off the screen.

looks good :) I wonder how it would run on Darwine (though Darwine has yet to implement sound last I heard).

Nice, I was attempting this very thing not too long ago (albiet with Beta 2), with very similar results. Thief 1 worked almost flawlessly, but was dog slow in hardware mode. Thief 2 was able to get ingame, but was completely broken and garbled looking (and again, sloooow). And it's true; no issues with installation, movies, or newer hardware breakage...perhaps one day the "everything just works" mantra can apply to Thief on OS X?
I'm certainly going to be messing around with Beta 3 tonight! I'd love to see DromEd and [Whatever]Loader working too, but I'm just hoping for some speed improvements. CrossOver is much more exciting to me than Boot Camp or Parallels; everything's OS X native and doesn't require purchasing (or using) Windows.

Lucky for you, the other alternative is to install linux and run Wine.

I know am replying to an old topic, but does anyone know how to get the "-lgntforce" on CrossOver, since I still get the error message, though the OP didn't.

What else have you tried?
Maybe compatibility mode? Not that I know what I'm talking about here.:p

Oh wait, doesn't matter, I realized what was wrong. I created a bottle under Windows XP, which is using WindowsNT. So all I had to do was make a Win98 one. Problem solved :)

Yay! Enjoy!

My Thief on CrossOver occasionally crashes, but it runs almost perfectly, dunno how to use DarkLoader with it, though.
