I'm gonna have a go at Thief on VMWare Fusion, CrossOver is too buggy.

Thief deadly shadows is running in vmware fusion 2.1, the mouse is a bit jittery in the menus, but it seems fine in the game.
So far the only graphics glitch is on the guards, they have bright green shoulderpads, and the ornament on the bow is also glow in the dark green.
It´s running quite well with 1600 resolution.

Is there anything available that does the same as CrossOver, vmware fusion, etc., but is a free download (and that is actually known to work with a minimum of fuss)? At this point I really just want to play the Thief games again, but can't really justify (or afford) to pay for an application just for a couple of games.
Thanks.

You might want to try wine. I heard there is no 3D support for Mac (don't know if that's still true). You can always play in software rendering mode though. I use Linux and Thief 1/2 play with full 3d acceleration (with the exception of 3d sound).

DarkLoader works fine with me (I didn't doubt that from the very beginning). However, Thief 2 seems to have some trouble. It seems like the color range is smaller (all dark areas are simply black, even if gamma is higher - however, bright areas look okay) and objects can be seen trough walls and other objects. DDfix didn't make the game start at all (had to patch the file via Windows, too). I'm running CrossOver 7.1.0 and Thief in a Win 98 bottle.
I'm gonna try Thief 1 tomorrow.
Did anyone try CrossOver Games?

EDIT:
I tried CrossOver Games myself now and also downloaded the CHUD tools to diasble the second processor core. Thief 2 works better now, transparent walls have disappeared. However, videos don't work and colors are still limited.
Thief 1 seems to work better. Videos are shown, and at least software rendering works. Haven't tried yet with only one processor.

Allright... CrossOver Games seems to work with all three thief games. Propably because COG 7.11 is based on Wine 1.10, while CrossOver Pro is based on Wine 0.9.6.
Thief 1 and 2 work almost perfect, except for the menu sometimes being white and you have to switch back to game and back to menu until you see the menu again. And in Thief 2 the videos don't work for some reason. Bottle is WIndows 98 based.
Thief 3 installed well in a Windows XP bottle. When starting, the disc wasn't recognised, so I took the editor T3.exe and t3main.exe, which don't require the CD. After starting, the videos are mostly perfectly, but sometimes the screen gets white, just like the menus in Thief 1 and 2. The Thief 3 menu looks... aweful. Basically it's correct, but the text is a total mess. If you know the menu points, navigation shouldn't be a problem. Ingame mode works pretty well, too. Only problem is the mouse which seems to be captured behind the screen frame, so you can only turn by 180° until it stops.
In general I can also say: it's a lot slower than under Windows via boot camp.

Yeah... that "not being able to turn 180 degrees" thing is a bug in Wine. It should have been squashed long ago, because it affects TUNS of games. I've seen it on at least 3 Unreal II based games. That is one bug that is seriously holding back gaming under wine.
