You know, this sounds like it's going to be live action. Have you ever given any thought thought to making it animated, in the form of the Rust Monkey cinematics? I always though the Thief cutscenes were some of the most impressive and atmospheric I've ever seen and to have a whole 2 hour film of them might really be quite the artistic statement.

You've got a real sense of pacing in your writing style that fits the atmosphere quite well. Very good stuff! Now you've got me wanting to read the rest.

Thanks, all. Glad you like it. :)

You know, it's funny you should mention that because that's one of the main things I've been debating with myself since I began this project. It could go either way at this point. Right now I'm leaning more towards live action - but in the unique Thief-style where live actors are often silhouetted or shadowed against an animated backdrop. One advantage to doing it animated, though, would be that all the original voice actors could be used - including the irreplaceable Stephen Russell. So in short, it isn't set in stone yet. I'll bring it up to the director after he's finished looking over the script. :)

Could you tell us how will the story unfold in your script? What locations, heroes, motifs and themes you decided to use?

I didn't mention earlier, but wasn't it Keeper Artemus that recruits Garrett in the prologue, not Mayar?

Immediately following the excerpt shown, Garrett goes to Cutty's place the next morning to deliver the scepter. This time (due to "Break From Cragscleft Prison", "Down In The Bonehoard", and "Assassins!" all being removed from the story because of time-constraints), Cutty
is there. Garrett receives his payment and Cutty informs him that another fence by the name of Viktoria is looking to employ his services.
Garrett meets with Viktoria later that day. She claims to represent a client who is impressed with the way he handled
the Bafford job (rather than Ramirez), and now wants Garrett to steal something for him. Garrett accepts the job and resumes his Phillip Marlowe-style voice-over at this point. "The Sword" sequence follows pretty much as we remember it from the game.
The next sequence follows verbatim from the game's first cutscene in which Garrett meets Constantine and takes the job to retrieve The Eye. "The Haunted Cathedral" ensues pretty much exactly as we remember it, followed by "The Lost City". Elements from the Bonehoard (for instance, the Mystic's Soul and Mystic's Heart tombs/obstacles/traps - minus the zombies) were fitted into the Lost City in an effort to preserve as much as possible from that mission (including the Water Talisman emanating an ethereal music which has a mysteriously pacifying effect on the local Burricks - until it is stolen from its resting place). Garrett finds both Constantine's sword and the Water Talisman useful in fending off the fire elementals when escaping with the Fire Talisman.
"Undercover" proceeds mostly as we remember it - with a lot of our favorite Hammerite quotes being recited in a background sermon while Garrett is snooping about through the Hammer temple's halls disguised as a Hammerite novice.
"Return To The Haunted Cathedral" follows just as we remember it - until Garrett obtains The Eye and finds himself locked in the cathedral. At that point (again due to time-constraints), instead of Murus' ghost sending Garrett on errands, Garrett devises a way to breach the cloister gate by exploiting a potential structural hazard in the cathedral's basement which he learns about from an engineer's note. Basically he blows up the entire basement (zombies and all) by igniting the gas-main with a fire arrow and numerous punctured oil drums. The basement caves in beneath the cloister, allowing Garrett to escape. He takes the four Talismans back as he leaves the cathedral.
The next cutscene proceeds exactly as we remember it, with Constantine and Viktoria double-crossing Garrett, taking his eye, and leaving him to die. The Keepers rescue him just as they had in the game, then abruptly leave - making sure to lock the one door behind them so that Garrett is forced to take the subterranean route out of Constantine's mansion (and thereby happen across the Trickster's diary in which his "Dark Project" is revealed). "Escape!" follows as we remember it.
"Strange Bedfellows" proceeds up to the point where Garrett finds the Hammerites. Once again, due to time-constraints the sub-mission to rescue High Priest Markander from the Trickster's minions was removed. Instead, Garrett simply joins the Hammerites upon finding them.
A very brief scene follows in which the three topmost Keepers (who at this time are Xavier, Orland, and Mayar) cryptically discuss the situation with the Trickster and his "pridefully chosen pawn" in a dim council chamber (basically it's just the Keeper quote from the final mission's intro converted to dialogue).
"Into The Maw Of Chaos" follows with the same mission of swapping The Eye for the booby-trapped counterfeit-Eye during the Trickster's ritual. However, instead of shutting down the Maw's portal with arrows, Garrett finds a final use for the four Elemental Talismans in sealing the portal forever - giving the Hammerites on the surface a fighting chance against the onslaught of the Trickster's minions. As the Trickster finishes his ritual with the fake Eye and the Hammerites' techno-magic clashes with the Trickster's chaos-magic, the Maw appears to be in danger of coming apart at the seams, so to speak, and Garrett high-tails it out of the crumbling realm back to the surface - exiting the portal through which he entered just before it closes permanently. In order to allow for the sequel, it isn't revealed whether the entire Maw is destroyed, or just the Trickster's portion of it.
The final cutscene proceeds exactly as we remember it - along with a few clips of the battle-weary Hammerites repairing their temple and burying their dead - and then fades to the ending credits.

It is never actually stated in the game. For continuity reasons, I chose Mayar (since Mayar is the Keeper quoted about the "essence of balance" - which seems like a very mentor-ish quote, so it fit well for Garrett's instructor). Mayar is also the first Keeper named in the game, and holds a fairly high position in the council (Third Keeper). This is not to say that I'm against changing his name to Artemus if that is in fact the Keeper who recruited Garrett. Is it mentioned somewhere in TDS?

wow, great work!...it all seems so shadowy and silent...just right.
I did not get one whiff of an impression of Garrett in his hob-nailed boots giving it "Thlock Thlock Thlock" on the floors either...YES! this can be done..But I would like to see Real life over animated, the effects you can have these days are so clever..maybe even stephen could still do it, even stephen as an Older garrett recalling his adventures in (real life)...played by another lithe and whippy male(partly animated). There is such scope:thumb:

Mayar seems, if memory serves, to be a historical figure, not one contemporary with Garrett. I'm sure jtr7 can weigh in on the canonical implications - again, though, I believe the keeper that catches Garrett in TDP is Artemus.

If that is so, I'll happily change the name to Artemus. I'm hoping someone can confirm this though.
