fair enough, i just loved the Ramirez mission is all. it was very 'crime thriller cross lock stock' to me, not very thief tho i spose. i think have a chase sequence in baffords and make Constantine's more like alice in wonderland and sort of ease out the threat of being caught because it doesnt match up, sneaking and running through a maze so either one or the other. it will make for a more interesting sequence.
also another major thing missing is the mission briefings. ino its a movie and it doesnt have briefings but look at the show dexter, he talks about what he is going to do on his way to the mission or wateva u wanna call it. i think have that with thief but include like 50fps slightly out of focused shots of say bafford, the scepter and the carriage leaving just like the sketches in the briefing. i think it will give much more effect. so just have a narrated briefing like the games.

"Assassins!" was my favorite mission from TDP.

Bafford's I wanted to show "proper-Thief" style, so we get to see how Garrett typically performs his jobs - with stealth, patience, and the odd blackjacking when necessary. He gets in, nabs the goods, and gets out with minimal hassle. As an audience, we get the picture: "seasoned pro". This sets the tone for how we expect Garrett to operate and how we (and Garrett himself) expect his missions to go.
Constantine's mansion shows stealth as well, but it's a much more challenging job and things end up going wrong toward the latter half - justifying the chasing, dodging, and general chaos that is likely far from the norm for a skilled sneak like Garrett. The sequence mixes stealth, a fair amount of "Alice In Wonderland" maze-wandering, and fast-paced action to keep up variety and avoid boring the audience with too much of one thing.
I think showing a chase-scene right off the bat in Bafford's, followed by a more laid-back excursion in Constantine's, would be pretty backwards from a dramatic standpoint. After all, the whole point of Constantine's mansion is to
test Garrett's abilities - to see what he's capable of and how he handles himself when things are at their worst. Thus, this mission should be harder and more dangerous than what the audience has already seen - not easier and safer.

With the exception of Bafford's manor (and the three missions I cut), all the other briefings are included in the script.

This is very good so far. Much time and care was spent on it and it really shows.
Two thumbs up so far here. :thumb::thumb:

well as long as there is a chase im happy. the bafford briefing really set the tone for the game i felt and would do to set it for the movie. it would only be a minute long, just some explanation of what hes doing and the creepy dark shots of the scepter and bafford with the eerie music like in the game. i think this is something you should definitely consider putting in rather than just have the audience guess what hes going after if anything.
on another note i dont have thief gold sadly so ive never played the assassins mission :(
this is an animation im working on. ive tried really hard to capture that thief feel so enjoy:

The audience won't know what he's after until he finds it - which is part of the intrigue. Think of the TDS intro. Same cinematic approach - we see a cloaked intruder skulking around, slipping past guards, knocking out a sentry, picking a lock...but why? We're not sure, but we're eager to find out. Finally we see the figure open a sack full of gold and valuables - and it all clicks. I basically just switched the sack of gold for the scepter.

Yes you have - it's the mission with Ramirez's mansion you were talking about.

is that assassins? oh sorry i was talking about the thieves guild, my mistake

Hehe. I was saying that the very mission you were referring to happened to be my favorite in the game. Unfortunately I had to cut it from the script - not because it isn't Thiefy (it's one of the most Thiefy missions in the game) but because there just isn't enough room for it, it isn't essential to the plot, and as you said - too much repetition with the sneaking theme gets old, no matter how well it's done.
By the way, nice work with the animation! Must have taken a long time to put together all those sound bytes from the games too. I wonder what would happen if you combined your animating skills with the Metal Dawn team's artists and a decent script... ;)

Most of the time I absolutely, positively DESPISE stick animations. But you know what? Somehow you've made it into something really amusing and fun. Hope you finish the rest soon, I quite enjoyed what I saw!

thanks heeps, and beleive me the sounds were the least of my problems in making this, not to say sifting through the never ending thief audio files wasnt a challenge:eek:
well for one, im not the greatest animator, i cant draw people at all really so i animate stickmen lol. i could direct a good animation with a good script and perhaps the metal dawn team doing storyboards, concept art and background. we would need to find a good animator tho. nywayz enuf of this hypothetical stuff.
Hehe thanks echelon, i know many people despise stick animations and often give me crap ratings and reviews on newgrounds.com because of it. but if i can make those people forget that mentality just for a moment its all good :cheeky:

Hehe, I was waiting to hear the rest of Benny's lines:
"So...what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work -- better when I'm drunk. It makes me FEARLESS! If I see a bad guy -- I'll jusht point my shword at him...and saaaAAAYYY! HEY! BAD GUY! You're not -- s'pposed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword...'til you go...'Ouch, I'm dead!' AHAHAH! (hic) See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' with ole Benny!"
Priceless. And to think that's Russell. :cheeky:
