By the way, welcome back, even if it's not all warm in here. Thief 4 is bringing out a lot of hidden biases.
thanks  it's all good though. Seeing the "Thi4f" logo sent chills of dread up my spine so I understand the "don't taint the dark engine" sentiment.
However the Thief on iPhone project is something I'm very excited about and I think I've laid out a good arguement as to why it should be done. Only time will tell.

What do you need to get the project off and running to completion (for a start)?

I rather like this idea, although I don't have and don't plan to buy an iphone in the near future. I played with Unity recently and it's pretty cool, you can have the same game work as standalone, via webplayer and iphone. A Thief game would definitely be possible to make - with a good and dedicated team.

Are you hostile toward The Dark Mod? Or what about Thievery?
That's true my greatest fear is to see a lame $tudio taking over the project, and THI4F is depressing me.
But I am not really a sucker for fanmis... And even if I Dromed a little (really a LITTLE), I just cannot consider fanmis as part of the game.
Of course, I'm not hostile(-hostile-hostile :ebil:) to them as I am to the surely spoiled sequel to the series of original games, but for me they are just not the same. Not part of the game. When I play my most serious dromeded missions, which I promise to a bright future :) (some of my misions are only stupid and meant to be) I don't feel like I'm Garrett, I'm... me. Playing a virtual level.
I never felt the athmosphere of Thief in a fanmis, mine or not.
Is that just me and my fanaticism, or do you understand what I mean?

I do understand what you mean. Before I knew of the existance of ttlg, I heard a few times of fan missions. I immediately got a little antipathy against it, thinking of small missions where the story of Thief would get fucked up (which happens with many small games.) After I finally played some FMs, I couldn't believe what I saw. So many ideas, so many shown dedication. Now I just have to laugh when I think back at the days I thought FMs wouldn't be fun: it was real ignorance.
However, there are still some things (I don't know which, but I know they are present) that I saw in OMs and never saw in a FM. OMs will always have a special place in the Thief universe, but I'm still enormously glad we have FMs.

You're going to convert me, taffer...
And maybe I will even one day publish some of my FMs here...
... when I will have succeeded against Dromed that is, I'm still not able to set proper objectives :cheeky:.
Really I'm glad to see my opinion shared!
Ale!

To be honest, I'm no programmer. However I can do some decent storylines, level design, and charactor skins.
What we need to start a project is 5-7 people, and somebody who has access to Unity. Only two people created Ravensword, but I think 5 or so fans offering their expertise in different areas can bring alot to the table. Dominus would be a great asset to the team as he's a Thief player and it seems he has the most experience with the unity engine as shown by N.O.V.A. (which I'm downloading once available).

This should definitely happen.

and to all the skeptics, I'm not trying to take away your Thief, I'm not trying to port the original game over to a cellphone.
After all, we can't even legaly use the "Thief" name or any of the content as it's copyright is currently being held by a large company who would come down on us like a box of anvils if we even tried.
There are so many popular game look-a-likes in the app store that have been made by small-time programmers bacause the real games and their publishers either couldn't make it work on the iphone or would royally muck it up if they tried. Take these for instance: (
http://www.148apps.com/reviews/gangstar-west-coast-hustle/) "Gangstar"=GTA Anyone?, (
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Dungeon+Hunter/review.asp?c=15891) "Dungeon Hunter"=Diablo-esque??, (
http://toucharcade.com/2009/11/17/ravensword-the-fallen-king-the-review/) "Ravensword"=Oblivion meets Zelda, (
http://toucharcade.com/2009/09/03/gamelofts-modern-combat-sandstorm-raises-the-bar-of-iphone-gaming/) "Sandstorm"=Call 'O Duty?, and finaly, the awesome-looking (
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/NOVA/news.asp?c=17016) "N.O.V.A."=iMaster Chief Who knows, if we actualy start something here...maybe "Shadow Knave" is next (or whatever we end up calling it)
I'm simply wanting to bring a medeival themed first person stealth game to the iphone that includes stealing, looting manors, dungeons, and crypts, knocking out guards all while staying in the shadows.
Obviously it will never have all the functionality of the PC version of Thief.
But
it doesn't have to, it simply has to be a enjoyable immersive game that feels alot like that grand ole game we played back in the late ninties with that Garrett fellow and his trusty blackjack...I returned to this forum because herein resides the best minds who have played that good old game and may be able to make something like it work on another device. :thumb:

I downloaded (
http://toucharcade.com/2009/12/17/n-o-v-a-near-orbit-vanguard-alliance-deadspace-halo-prime/) N.O.V.A. earlier and I must say I'm shocked at the level of detail and polish in the game. It's alot like a cross between Deadspace & Halo, but I never thought the graphics quality could be so high on such a small device. It
will be possible to create a game that will almost look better then Thief2 graphics-wise!
