http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/3156/shapkaha0.pngHi, guys! This is V-Raptor (unfortunately, V-Raptor nickname had been occupied, therefore I got registered as ViiRaptor).
Thief: The Red Moon Omen is my novel. While writing this novel I was trying my best to preserve an atmosphere, the world of the Thiefsie games, to link up Thief 2 and Thief Deadly Shadows, which had been very different stylistically. Though it's an action packed narration, it gradually grew into a drama at the very end of the novel.
I thoroughly studied all the Thief Trilogy to be maximally accurate operating with the Thief characters. Moreover that, the Thief: Red Moon Omen carries a number of cross references with the T2X campaign and with a few of my FM's favorites.
You have already seen seven B&W illustrations: (

There are totally eight of them. By the time of publishing of the novel the painter will make them look better.
Here are the links to a couple of chapters from the Thief: Red Moon Omen (in PDF format, Acrobat Reader is required):

I had already managed to publish one piece of literature in Russia - an animalistic fantasy short novel. Its title is
The Tales From The Woods. Inline Image:

More than 3000 copies were sold out so far and the publisher (The Russian Culture Foundation) is happy to publish more. So I made a good start with my debut work.
There will be no problem to publish The Red Moon Omen in Russia if Eidos would be kind enough to give me just a formal letter allowing publication. We need none of their financial support. My elder brother is currently in London on a long business trip. He will have enough time to meet the Eidos officials to tackle this issue.
The RMO is just an initial novel in the series I am planning to write. The literature is my profession, so I'm stubborn enough to make it my way.
Both The Tales From the Woods and the Thief: The Red Moon Omen are fully translated into English. So their publication outside Russia is just a matter of time.
I hope you'll enjoy to read demo chapters! Please never forget that this material is not meant for any kind of reproduction without my consent. You'll be able to see full text as a printed matter only.
Best regards,
Iliya Malkov aka V-RaptorIt's me! Nice to meet you all... )))

At the risk of instantly becoming the bad guy, I feel I must point out that the translation needs much more work. If this were a modest fanfiction posted free for all on the internet then I would certainly not say this, but if you are planning an attempt at publication in an english-speaking country you need to be aware that the english in your story is quite rough.
And I think we all would very much like to see that happen.
ViiRaptor on 11/2/2008 at 19:11
You're absolutely right. Brushing up of the translation is a must. None of the publishers would release it as it is.

I think it's far enough along so that all you'd need is someone experienced enough with the mechanics of the English language to help you polish it up. So the translation as it stands can be a springboard for the final version. You'd just need to supervise closely to make sure that nothing is "lost in the translation" ... ahem.
I suggest a german. :thumb:

Superb!
I'll need German version in a due course as well. I'll remember your offer cause an Elephant never forgets.
Are you not scared? I got more than 230 pages of the RMO... Plus, four more Thievery related novels would come up...

I really doubt Eidos will allow you to publish it just like that, but still, good luck!
Yandros on 11/2/2008 at 21:08
Ditto. Eidos will never let you publish this (haven't read it, just assuming you're using their characters though based on your post), at least not without major legal red tape and signing of contracts in blood; not to mention they'll surely want a cut of the receipts for letting you use their IP. But I hope it doesn't happen that way, I'd love to see it published in English... we should have had Thief novels long ago.

Keep it fan-fiction, keep it fun.:thumb:

First congratulations on finishing this novel. I do wish you luck with the publishing idea.
If you're interested in someone else's experiences with trying to get Eidos to allow a Thief-novel to be published, ask xxcoy :D She wrote a fantastic Thief-novel (in German) and tried to get it published.
