It is a technique - call it a bug exploit if you prefer - that allows to take or frob objects from behind locked doors. I have keyholed many doors in Thief Gold, but not a single one in Thief 2. Lytha has reported she did it in Thief 2 with the old style doors that have the same model as in Thief Gold. According to the information from the developers, the keyholing bug was fixed in the 1.18 Thief 2 patch.

Hey nix! So, do you play Thief? I started playing this game in about 1998. My brother started to play again, so I said, hey, what the hell. Then I noticed that speed runs in Thief is freaking awesome!
And morbus, those runs were very helpful, and very fast *gasp*
Time to try to get times on thief 2!
its ok, i am a kind of player who would run though the whole map in few min.
i look into ancient architecture and try to remake that on Unreal Engine. look into storyline alot, the thing i enjoy the most in Thief. and the last thing ofcourse is i use my UT-DM strategy, kill all.

I did look at the profile page, but apparently the URL didn't catch my eye. Man, I feel humble now... /me bows down. It's an honour, sir. :D
