I've decided to play through Gold and TMA, and capture the entire game. Only God knows what it is, uncompressed, but it's likely to be a total of 24 hours of video. Maybe 600meg per hour, I'm looking at 3 full dvd's. I'll have to convert to Xvid/OGG every couple of levels, just to keep the size managable.
I don't really want to do speed runs. I'd rather they be closer to walkthroughs.
Any ideas?

Sounds ambitious, but let me be the first to ask, umm ... why?
Edit: I don't want to sound like I'm attacking your idea, I'm not ... sounds interesting -- I'm just curious, what do you expect to do with it?

That'd be quite a walkthrough. But I do have one thing to say: Are you nuts? (Not meaning in the mean way, of course. :D )

Well, first things first, can you still play normally with Fraps running? With the free versions of Fraps I've used, either you take a massive performance hit and get video with no sound, or a fairly hard performance hit with sound in your video, but with only 30 second clips.
If your computer isn't very fast, maybe a demo would be a better idea. Tame file size, and it would almost certainly run on a faster computer. ;) I recorded a full run through SS2 using the demo method, but it seems you need a computer of equivelant speed, or faster, to view it properly.

Any way to record the Thief Gold/ Metal age Main Menu in Fraps, or some other recording program? It won't record the opening Menu with New Game/ Load and all the other options for me.

I've got Bafford's ready to convert. I had played through Cragscleft, and was checking the feed, when I realized I had accidently checked the "no sync" button. So the sound was askew on both missions, and I had to chuck them.
FRAPS isn't perfect every time, but I can capture at 640x512 at a solid 30fps. On this run through, for some reason, the screen goes funky when I quicksave. Not really a big deal, since I can just cut out the affected frames, and it won't even be noticable. But it's never done that before.
Bafford's is 7.09GB, uncompressed. Something like 25 minutes. It'll compress down to 350meg, real easy on the first pass. I'll probably wash it through 3 times, and work it down to 200meg. 500meg per hour would be a decent goal.

Well, with those numbers, I'll be looking forward to it. :)

Hmmm, so. Anyone know how to capture a video of the Thief Menu? ;)

try some other video capture programs
like camtasia or something
they're commercial though

a very nifty idea but perhaps you could break up the vids into 1 mission pieces for easier dl'in
EDIT: "Bafford's is 7.09GB" YIKES!
