My pet theory for why Con had books on magic from other lands laying around for Garrett to see:

The Eye is really patient, otherwise, to have been carried through the streets of a living city after being sealed up with undead puppets for over 50 years, eh?

Niiice, thanks! :) Gotta say, I've always liked Eye Constantine's holding in that cutscene, a lot more than the in-game Eye; kept wondering for years why they didn't use that one as a game model too.

Man, it's actually rare to know another fan that's so up on things. I'm enjoying the hell out of this.

Well, it
is my favourite game :p Although I haven't been as thorough with TMA (shame on me, I actually
liked TDP's monster-missions and its less "polished" looks), and still consider TDS only partially canon, mainly due to the awful work they did with the Keepers (Keeper Enforcers, masters of stealth, wreaking havoc in the City and killing random civilians - really? The Equilibrium FM nailed it much better), putting such a blatant scar on Garrett's face for coolness factor, and the Pagans ((
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4MqTCIDKhU) "not the BES!" was pretty much what I kept thinking whenever I heard them talking): it was painfully obvious that much of what made the first two games so immersive was gone. :(

Yup, got it and scoured it ;)
And yes, the nursery rhyme-sounding speech pattern of the Pagans is one of the things I missed the most from TDS (always had a soft spot for them, even before TMA). I tell ya, translating all those Pagan songs in Italian while trying to keep them as poetic-sounding as I could was quite a pain in the ***. :p

The TDP and some of TMA Pagan sayings were
much creepier, inferring and implying more cruelty and revenge without sounding as much like children killing a pest.
"Builds your Roofs of Dead Wood. Builds your Walls of Dead Stone. Builds your Dreams of Dead Thoughts. Comes Crying Laughing Singing back to Life, takes what you steal, And pulls the skins from your Dead Bones shrieking."Yep.

Those are the Pagans I'd like to see/hear more of, for sure.

Hahaha! I saw some of the translations back to English of the TDP briefing quotes in German and French and it wasn't even the gist of the things oftentimes.

Indeed even the german translations for all these games perfectly lack the beauty of the pagan language. :(
They read and sound like plain city-folks-talk, and indeed the words lack the wrath of the pagans as well. :p
Creating such texts and words is an art of it's own... and unfortunately only the english players seem to have had the pleasure to read and hear them in all their beauty.
That's why I am playing in english only. :D
And true... I would like to see more real pagan missions as well - with custom voice acting and not simply with default texts!
... and sword-apes... since I miss those cute creatures that much.
