there are no new resources there though - everything that is in the the demo can be found in the TTLG texture packs, TFix and Tafferpatcher.
and as I've said, the demo is standalone, it does not require Thief2 to be installed, it does not write into the windows registry, you just extract it anywhere you like, run the exe, play it, and then delete it or whatever. no chance of messing up anything. setting it up as FM should be possible, but would serve no purpose (unless you consider saving a couple of megabytes of hard drive space as absolute must).
strictly speaking, this is not supposed to be an FM, it's a demo - something one downloads and tries out for free when considering whether to buy the full game or not.

I thought you explained it very well - my guess is that some of it is getting lost in translation with folks who use english as a second language. That and we're not used to getting standalone missions after all these years of having to use mission loaders :laff:
Thank you for this. It will be great to revisit the demo. The Thief 2 demo was what started it all for me personally in becoming a fan so it'll be a nice nostalgia trip.

Perhaps you're referring to (
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html) 7zip, downwinder.
It's only a very small file and is actually quite handy to have anyway. I'm going to have to get it myself as I only have WinRAR.

WinRAR also can handle decompression of .7z files (unless you have a very old, pre-3.40 version).
But 7-zip is very useful and performant indeed.

didn't quite expect that there might be a pc incapable of opening 7zip archives out there - will probably make a proper installer for the demo sooner or later, that should solve the "problem".

Thanks Constance, it didn't occur to me to try. I haven't got that far yet anyway as my downloads seem to have gone walkabout at the moment.
Edit. Yes, that worked fine!

Personally, I live for discoveries, secrets, and hidden treasures like this. :cheeky:
What an awesome find!

i don't have a unzipper that is the issue, and i don't want to download anything else on my comp, why does the file have to be zipped is it that hard to have a unziped version, the file size was already massive for a zipped file, how much bigger could it be for a demo level if it was not zipped?
thank you but i will have to just pass unless there is a unzipped version that comes out for download.

@downwinder - if by an "unzipped" version, you mean a single file that will install everything for you, voodoo47 said he would get to it "sooner or later." It's likely not a priority because most people have winrar or 7zip on their computer already. You should really download a version for yourself, the 7zip program is only 1 MB in size. Have you really never had to unzip anything before? If you need help with how it all works, feel free to send me a PM.

It's hard for me to imagine anyone never having to encounter zipped files even as a casual computer user. Even if someone sends you an email attachment there's a very good chance it's going to be a zip file. It's amazing how far people will go out of their way to inconvenience themselves instead of downloading and installing a small, simple to use program.
