It's there any release date time in the *Horizon*?
I think your project it's very interesting also for gaining attention about Linux and open developing about the DarkMod. It can be the first High quality single player FPS avaible for Linux, it can be very popular in the OSS world (and maybe the also the proprietary engine will be opened by ID when you finish) .
No release dates yet. Sorry. :) John Carmack has said that the doom 3 source code will be released in around 2 or 3 years. So it will either be before we release or a year or so afterwards. :)

So, nobody tried Thief2 with Ubuntu?
No-one Taffer there, use Linux ?:laff:
(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110050) Here is a thread about running Thief 1 and 2 under WINE. It does work for me, although I cannot play the movies; also did not check the most recent WINE versions yet.
So far, I had no success running TDS.

The Wine Application DB is your first starting point.
Thief 1 apperantly works fine ((

http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=4206):)

[...] you can load the game fine and it seems to be working but it freezes randomly and to freequently to be playable.
Thief 3 has been reported as "garbage" ((
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3785)).
While the first two Thief games will certainly run smoothly without hardware acceleration, Doom 3 won't. Mazzortock, which graphics board do you use? Unfortunately I did not have any success with installing the proprietary ATI driver for Linux under different versions of SuSE Linux, Fedora Core and Ubuntu - I am using a 9500 Pro adapter.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Maybe i have to turn off the Hw acceleration by editing some CFG file, as i understand the DirectX don't work.
Anyway i'm interested only in T2 (to play the best FM!:-)).
I let you know about any progress. It's a pity don't playing Thief2 under Linux. :)

That's cool, so you guys will release TDM *before* 2 years :-)
Maybe it's possibile to have the editor ready for... Tomorrow ? :cheeky:
I'm joking; I think we hope all in the project, good work!

I've already seen the Wine and Cedega DB, but with no real information. I was hoping about some taffer here that already plays some FM in his LinuxBox.
I'm with an Ati X600. Installing the Ati closed driver it' very simple in Ubuntu, that's present in the repository. I play easily Doom3 in my LinuxBox, true 3D, very smooth.
For this reason it's a pity that it's not possible to play our lovely best stealth game of ever, in Linux.

I'm not sure what you mean by that last statement...Doom 3 runs natively on Ubuntu Linux, you don't need to run it under wine. I have played installed and played it a few times now, it runs better in linux than in windows.

I've run both Thief I and II under wine just fine in the past, but the big thing to remember is that these games use a 16-bit graphics mode that not all 3D drivers support under linux - Nvidia does, but ATI did not at least a year ago when I last had an ATI card.
One of the wine devs is a System Shock II fan, and is apparently working to get the dark engine supported better.
Another option is actually VMWare, believe it or not. Version 5 and higher started implementing experimental 3D acceleration, and while it's not stable in the existing release, the new VMWare Fusion has been demoed running 3D Mark just fine on a Windows virtual machine on both Mac and Linux hosts. New processor-level virtualization technology combined with a passthrough Direct3D device means that windows games could be virtualized with very little performance penalty.
