No! The graphics aren't ready yet, and not integrated fully into the current game engine.

It would be very impressive to see something like this in the works.
Blackthorne was very inspiring to me in alot of ways.
The rotoscope cinematic graphics or whatever it was called, offered alot of stunning visual fun.
The use of the flashbombs to blow up metal doors and the light effects with the tools of the trade for blackthorne were something i would like to see again :D in a game.
The adventure and level type of mapping was something you never really got to experience again in the same way with other games.
After 2D, it took me while to get used to a 3D game when you never had 3rd person as an option. It took away some of the real world -top over- visibility quality.
"crusader no remorse" was another game that came to mind for a good 3rd person example. The destruction and enemy standoffs having its stunning qualities for the player. THe in-game cinematic studio acting was done fairly well here also. IMHO
If you played any of these games you know what i mean.
But 2D with Thief would be interesting.
Hot damn! I for one would wet myself in anticipation for Thief 2D. :eww:

Sounds abitious, it also seems like he knows what he's doing and since he's a fan of the thief series himself it would seem that he's not going to spoil it.
so.....
Good Luck, bring the thief series all the more glory.

I need to locate a copy of blackthorne. I keep hearing things about it.

Theres an earlier post in this thread that takes you to a link where you can download the Blackthorne 32x mega drive version with an emulator to play it under winxp and it works right on your desktop=)
This is my first time to even see something like this.
The graphics are outstanding in this version but the speed of the game is so fast, I can't figure out how to slow the game down so its more playable.
And my sound blaster audigy card does not have a gampad port so its keyboard only time.
I have the DOS version of BT but this one is much better.
EDIT:I just realized that the SNES version of BT is the best example of the game because it has more actions that are used like crouching and rolling left or right. It makes the game more realisticaly fun than the sega 32xmega drive version. The graphics are more enhanced on the mega version.
Hope that helps

Awesome. Thanks I'll have to try it out if i get a chance before Doom3 comes to my house.
(When that happens don't plan on hearing much about Thief2D updates until I beat it ) :D

Can't say I agree. The speed is indeed wonky [fast one screen, crawl another], plus the sprites are prerendered 3d instead of hand-drawn. Ugh. Donkey Kong Country was the first and last game where that didn't look lame. :erg:

Don't laugh too hard, but what exactly is 2d. Is 2d like Diablo or Age Of Empires? If so, i think this sounds like a really kickass idea! :thumb:

Animation code is now in the game and I have sent the build to the rest of the dev team to try out!
On another note: I will be needing one or two alpha testers to assist me in finding bugs as the game gets more complex. Please E-Mail me if you feel you are up to the job. My email can be found on (
http://thief2d.dracsoft.com)
The responsibilities include:
1. Testing any major build I create.
2. Creating a BUG post in the dev-team bug forum whenever you find one with recreation info.
3. Help out in finding the solution by trying various fixes.
Also: We still need a level creator! If you are interested please email me. It's pretty easy to create levels. All it takes is some photoshop skill for the backgrounds or making tiles.
Regarding the 2D style of the game: It won't be Top-down or Isometric 2D as in Diablo. The reason being that I don't think the game would be as fun that way, nor as original. It will be 2D in the style of the Castlevania series. More specifically, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Animation editing is now incorporated into the level editor. Everything is looking good. Still need a tester or two and a level designer. Please give me an e-mail if you're interested.
