* I support the 'power to the devs' argument. If devs want to make horribly inconsistent lighting, that's hwat they should be able to do.
Teamwork should not be forced. If they can't do it, you'd better boot them anyway.
* I played Splinter Cell. I played some Splinter Cell 2d. The latter sucked.
* I can't imagine why a top-down view wouldn't be better. If one really wants that sense of height, a bit of bitmap scaling ought to be enuff.

A. Good
B. I know. The idea is the bring the perspective of SplinterCell 2d to the Thief universe. The SplinterCell 2d stunk terribly I agree.
C. Maybe it would be better. But it is also a proven style for this game-type. Metal gear series has done it this way since the beginning. Why would I or anyone on the development team want to donate time and money to do something that's already been done when we could just reuse an existing engine and it's features? We're making T2D the way it is because we want something original and fun and challenging and because we believe that this way will produce a great game.
I won't get in a fit over it or anything, just letting you know my perspective on the project design reasonings. When you make your own project, you can make it a top-down. :) Remember we are not a large company or even a company at all and are not funded by anything but my own wallet.

Nah, I kicked over a rock today in my mothers garden and you weren't there. But then again... maybe I did see something trying to scurry out of my sight. Got any art skills? We could really use a mission creator or alpha tester.

Sorry, i'd love to help with this but i'm currently busy with my two FM's and making custom objects. I hope it goes places for you. Thousands of people will want to download and play this i'm sure, and not just TTLGer's either. Get it out there to places like FilePlanet and (

Hey, maybe a PC magazine will snap it up too? I can't really see why they wouldn't.
The best of luck with it. :thumb:

Why do we need .NET?
dracflamloc on 2/8/2004 at 13:55
Because it's being written in .NET
Just get the framework. One 20MB download is all you need for all .NET programs.
Remember, when a project has no funding it's kind of a "take what you can get scenario" and since Microsoft sent me .NET for no charge theres not much other choice. (I know, there are freeware C++ compilers out there, but none offer the features and integration I need for this project to be done in a relatively small timeframe.)
I do however plan on migrating this out of .NET once release 1 is out.
Besides, if I hadn't started this project I wouldn't have gotten my current job (.NET ASP/SQL programming) as I would have had no .NET experience. So at least it puts food on my table and pays the college loans

Upon reading this thread, the early 80s game 'Saboteur' for the Spectrum (and c64) came to mind.

Your game will in probably not resemble the above much, but I thought I'd share the nostalgia. I wish you the best of luck with the project, it's a great idea, and I'm looking forward to playing it.

With such generalizing, you'd be reinventing the wheels no matter what you do :p
Well, unless you make a first-person 2D sneak-em-up. Ain't seen too many of those.

Sure thing ;)
