Syncing is just "one of those issues". If you don't vsync then you're not tying up the cpu waiting for the retrace but can get a very inconsistent framerate. If you do sync then, as a developer, you can poll the update status and do useful cpu work instead of just making an API call that doesn't return until the display is updated. It's usually better to poll rather than triplebuffer if you can't spare the extra vidmem (triple means less working set for textures in vram). You'd hope that developers test their app on a wide range of hardware and make a choice. And then there's some display drivers that buffer anything up to about 5 frames anyway; the sound you hear "now" is five frames out of sync with the display. :laff:
Plus, wonder how many developers use RTT (Render To Texture) results in the same frame (completely stalling the GPU)...

I'm the resident jackass-to-the-jackasses, heres my card. :cheeky: As for T3, it was good as a stand-alone game (damn, tons of hyphens here...), but it just doesnt do it for me when it comes to old-school goodness. Who knows, maybe the openDarkEngine will have an option to kill headbob if you should so desire. :thumb:
