Thief 3 rocks, dudes, Thief 3 rocks. We just can't appreciate it properly, yes? :p
Maybe so. But it's good to indulge in criticism, and doesn't necessarily mean that the poster hated every minute of it. Without another Thief to look forward to, the bad points of the third instalment are just going to stand out more and more.

i agree, which is why i choose to ignore the bad points :p
and besides, even though we likely won't see a thief 4, there's still the dark mod.
and frankly, TDS is still one of my favourite games, along with the other two games.

I really feel that the unreal engine was the wrong choice for the game....too bad they didn't [use the Quake 3 engine], it would be far more mod friendly.
The Quake 3 platform was never terribly console-centric. By the time it made it to one of the consoles, the PS2, with Quake III: Revolution, it was heavily modified. Grey Matter/id did extensive modifications again for RTCW for the Xbox, and I'm not sure if id ever ended up licensing it.
UE 2.0/2.5 is a fairly proven multi-platform engine, designed and built with consoles in mind. Real easy to get a title going on the PC and all major consoles. Plus, Ion's been working with the Unreal platform since the original Deus Ex, so they likely get better pricing on licensing and are infinitely more familiar with the development process with the UE toolset.

No, there's no Thief 4. But Ion Storm was beginning work on a Thief 4 before everything when ka-phooey. It was going to be set in a more futuristic version of "The City", but still dark and with fantasy/horror elements and still with all the factions and all that. The first mission was going to be a raid on "Senator Bafford's Manor" as an homage to Dark Project.
All this as stated by "MysteryDev" on this very forum. He also posted a piece of concept art for Garrett in Thief 4, showing him looking very modern and urban with a hoodie.
To be honest I found the whole thing extremely exciting and I was tearing up a bit at the thought that we'll never see this game.
Ahh, to be honest, I was feeling ambivalent about it but now I'm more inclined to want Thief 4 coming out. I know onnce it does, and does not live up to its prequels with the stealth and stuff, I'll be whining about it. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that Thief 4 didn't work.
P.S.- Could you show me the concept art of Garrett in Thief 4 that MysteryDev posted?

you know what's funny?
i'd always wanted to see what a modern version of the city would be like.
probably like NYC only drawing and quartering is still legal and there's zombies.
i disagree with the concept of a "modern" garrett, though. it would have to be someone else.
and of course, there'd be no more keepers, which takes a bit of the mystique out.

Different main character, but to be perfectly honest, I feel like Splinter Cell (especially Chaos Theory) IS your modern Thief. Obviously you must choose to play stealthy for this to be true. Slap Garret's voice on the main character and make the locations fit the Thief franchise and I can't imagine what else could be improved upon.

Fisher's character sucks.
Also if you should have high tolerance for propaganda of Tom Clancy brand.

Looking at the Thief 3 website makes me sad, because it's perfect. The images, the music, the atmosphere, it was all so dark and thief-ish. When I first saw that before DS came out, I remember thinking, "DAMN!" because if the game looked and felt like that, it would have been astounding.
