Duhh, people aren't grateful.
While you have 18 FPS outdoors with all settings on maximum, I have 18 FPS outdoors with settings barely on medium on my 6600GT.
Oblivion IS a next-gen game and no obsolete 7900 can change that. :sly:

look up a program called FRAPS. i haven't used it in a while, but turning on the FPS counter should be fairly self-explanatory, if i recall.

The Quake 3 platform was never terribly console-centric. By the time it made it to one of the consoles, the PS2, with Quake III: Revolution, it was heavily modified. Grey Matter/id did extensive modifications again for RTCW for the Xbox, and I'm not sure if id ever ended up licensing it.
UE 2.0/2.5 is a fairly proven multi-platform engine, designed and built with consoles in mind. Real easy to get a title going on the PC and all major consoles. Plus, Ion's been working with the Unreal platform since the original Deus Ex, so they likely get better pricing on licensing and are infinitely more familiar with the development process with the UE toolset.
Actually it was on the Dreamcast first ;)
And it was pretty much a vanilla Q3 engine. The reason the PS2 was such a pain was... well... the PS2 IS a pain to code for!

If there ever is a modern Thief game, the thief should most definately by dressed as a modern day thief: in a ski mask or sock over the head, for a creative extension of the Thief series. The plot could involve some corporate scandal.

What I really want is a Thief RPG with lots of interesting quests and interactive characters - free open city and its environs, size of Gothic2+addon would be enough.

You can try Thief-moded Oblivion for that experience.
The lockpicking system in Oblivion also single-handedly beats both TDS and Splinter Cell.

Does it remove fantasy Elder Scrolls characters, you know those with tails, edgy ears etc. by chance?
Still, official Thief themed stealth oriented action-RPG (with old characters and places) would be cool especially if developed by former LGS employees + Piranha Bytes + Bethesda staff ;)

You don't want tails on your Thief characters? You might not want to play the final boss on T1 then :p
I get your point though. Twould be fun.
