Wow. Thanks for the information guys. jtr7: That's fascinating... So it's some sort of wrap around error with time, and somehow it effects software in 2038, I guess. I don't quite understand it, but I knew I wasn't pulling the 2038 out of my ass, I recall reading about it in a thread a long time ago.:o

Happy Birthday to GREAT GAME and to all taffers!

Ah, the day I played that demo of Lord Bafford's in glorious software mode, and was blown away -- can a game really do all that? :laff: Things haven't been the same since, especially since Thief took over my gaming life.
Time to break out that bottle of Tokaji; this looks like the perfect occasion... :sly:
Although I think I first played the demo some time in December...

Oh, this is a most joyous occasion. It's been a marvelous ride that luckily shows no signs of stopping yet. :thumb:

No seriously, I think 2038 is when dromed stops working, though I guess you could just change your computer's clock back a few years.
Then it's high time to remake the first two Thieves in the Dark Mod or at least the TDS engine. It isn't impossible.

The only problem is that the mission builders would much rather make their own stuff, and even if they dedicated themselves to recreating the OMs, they would be sorely tempted to "correct" things--valid or not. To create, rather than REcreate the OMs...
TDM's not ready, yet, but close, so close. T3Ed, only if they can get a couple more coders on the job, or mission redesign is absolutely necessary.
But I agree with the general sentiment. I'd be more than curious to see the OMs with updated graphics, and maybe so many superficial gamers would shut up about the "horrible, out-dated graphics that were already out-dated when it first came out!"

I don't mind the older graphics, but I wouldn't mind completely facelifting them along with the game engine for the sake of preserving them for the future. TDS will need it after some time as well... :p ;) This is a landmark series in quality gaming and I would hate to see it just fade into oblivion... :(

Agreed. As a member of the unofficial Thief Preservation Society, whatever it takes to keep Thief around and playable until the end of time.:)
