Happy belated to Garrett, Constantine, Viktoria, Karras, Truart, Mosely, Artemus, Drept, Caduca, Gamall, and the the whole crew.
And a billion thank you's to the FM creators, Modding wizards, Tutorial writers, Site owners, Information gatherers, out and out fans, and a very big thanks to the TTLG forum crew. Without you all we wouldn't be celebrating this anniversary, and I'd have never gotten lost in the amazing world of Thief.
And thank you LGS for starting it all, and to Ion Storm for making the installment that introduced me to Garrett (and the Cradle) in the first place.
P.s. I'd join the TPS :p lol.

i have no technical abilities to offer the TPS, but i'll gladly inflate its ranks.
one of the first games i ever played, and it's doomed me to being underwhelmed ever since. still, i'm extremely grateful.
reading some of the recollections of playing Bafford's for the first time, i'm reminded how striking an experience it was for so many of us, the feeling that you were actually going somewhere when you played it, somewhere unique and interesting. and you actually had to use your senses and your brain, investing yourself in the experience, rather than it being just a glorified point-and-click exercise, a workout of your lizard-brain reflexes with a recycled story and tedious writing thrown in for good measure.
developers don't really make many new games anymore. they make old games, just with new graphics and updated technological capabilities that don't serve new ideas (there are exceptions, i know, just not enough of them).
still, 10 years ago LGS put thief out there, and thanks to you guys it's not going to go away any time soon, which means it always has the potential to inspire.

I dreamt that to celebrate Thief we were all invited to see "the management" (it wasn't clear who they were, but in the dream they had this aura of being "The ancient masters of Thief") on an island somewhere in Romania. I would be going there together with a group of other Swedes.
I was out with an old classmate from Elementary and we were looking for "the house of Thief 2", but we got lost. I found a map with all the thief houses (except Thief Gold which was a forest)(Thief 3 wasn't included) marked on it. Thief 2 turned out to be the same house that I had been living in for the last two years, but it was now gone.
We realized that the celebration was taking place on the upper floor of a building that had suddenly appeared in front of us, so we waited (together with a number of other Swedish taffers) for the elevator to take us there. When it arrived it was a cabin lift and after a short ride we ended up in the mountains of Romania.
In Romania everyone drove like crazy and always tried to "get there first", so no one ever slowed down even the slightest. Crashes occurred, but no one seemed to care. Neither did we as we were taken by some kind of bus (First Person-perspective as if being the bus) to our mysterious destination. We soon got off the bus and our guide explained (in "Pseudoromanian") that we would have to go for a boattrip ("boat" was called "baati" ["baatsi"?] in Pseudoromanian). The boat had seen better days and there was great hesitation among us.
The road ended in a steep river bank and on the other side of the river there was an island (our goal). I said "We can jump over that." and people went ahead. On the island we entered a cave and had this precipice in front of us. "The management" was waiting for us on the top and they threw down ropes for us to climb up on. A creature (I prefer to call it an apebeast) was climbing up and down to show us how to do it. At the same time "the management" threw small stones and dirt at us to test us. This was required in order for us to learn how hard it is to be a [Thief? Author? It wasn't clear.].
A spiral stairway later appeared, but I decided to try the rope. I didn't think I could do it, but it was real easy and when I got up I was told that I had won another contest. I didn't know which these contests had been or even that there had been any contests, but it seemed that "the management" were giving us a little adventure even before we had met them.
Unfortunately the dream ended before we met "the management" face to face, so I never found out who they were.
Conclusion:
The Dark Engine source code is to be found on an island somewhere in Romania.

I can't believe it was 10 years ago. A lot of time has passed.

Ciao Tano!
Pensare che avevo cestinato il demo perchè non avevo capito che dovevo "stay in the shadow", e mi incazzavo perchè il tutorial continuava a farmi rieptere la stessa task.
