Wow, thank you for being so understanding. I thought I was going to get attacked by the veterans here.
Your discussion of the Fan Missions have piqued my interest though. I will definitely try those out, especially if the difficulty mod would work with them.
My play style leans towards "ghosting" as you guys call it, so maybe I should try a more confrontational approach to shake things up.

I think it's far easier to kill all the guards in the mission than to "ghost" it properly... then again, I've spent a lot of time practicing sword combat for fun on my Dromed breaks, so maybe that's why. :p

Thief & all the FM's are the only games i play, for over 10 years now, best game ever made as far as i care, and thanks to ALL the mission makers, i still love it as much as i ever have because of them.

Nice bumpage. Interesting thread. My first thought was to get angry, but once it was explained I cooled down.:p:laff:
I can kind of relate... But I agree with others that taking breaks is the best thing. Thief is like an MMORPG in this way: You give it so much of your time and eventually you tire of it; But then whadda'ya know, some month or two later, or maybe even the next year, you come right back to it.
I think another thing that has somewhat renewed my interest is Thief 2 Multiplayer. It really does present a different playing experience. For anyone who's played multiplayer games, you know that little notice before playing that says "Game Experience may change during online play" or some such? Well, I think it's pretty much true. I mean, I've practically learned (from class & RL experience) that developing a singleplayer game is a whole different thing than that of developing a multiplayer game.
Which brings to mind thief 4. I'm torn between wanting multiplayer and not wanting it. On the one hand, it could be totally awesome and create a new thieving experience. On the other, it could fail. Most importantly, however, is, how will it affect the singleplayer experience, if at all? Does the singleplayer experience suffer because of a focus on the multiplayer aspect? I certainly don't want to see the answer being Yes. So, really, I'd rather have a singleplayer game that is polished despite my urge to see multiplayer thief done. Sorry, that was a bit off topic. Excuse my rambling.:p

"Hey guys, I finished Thief like 100 times and remember position of every guard, enemy, shadow, item, loot, door, key and lever in the game as well as every trick with weapon and engine oddities such as crate stacking. And... the game is not as fun as it used to be!"
Gee, I wonder why.

Come back in five years. I just took a five year break and now I have a ton of FM's to catch up on, and it's fresh again!
In five years the rebooted Thief series will be out(T4 bombed), to cash in and coincide with the new Twilight prequels! Garrett has been redesigned and is now voiced by Nolan North. He is also a vampire now, thus his fetish for the dark. He fights other vampires with his steampunk machine gun which fires wooden bullets. I don't want to spoil anything more for you, see you in five years.

Oh it's no fault with Thief. Music gives meaning to my life, but even I'll get a bit bored of Beethoven if I listen to him too much. You just need a break or a change.

What really would spice up thief is new alternative AI... probably very difficult to achieve but it's mostly with the AI that the predictability occurs.

I do self imposed playing rules myself but then again i only load the games up every once in a while and you would be surprised what you forget in a couple of years.
I could never get the styles used by some of the other veterans like Lytha. Hell i cant even manage to not take damage falling off of things, let alone not doing damage to any people or critters AND getting all the loot. I realize a lot of people can do this but its entirely too much work for me :P
some times i choose not to save the game at all to make sure i am careful, again nothing earth shattering.

yeah, but if you suddenly fall off a ladder three hours into the game due to the engine bug...
