This mission does NOT require you to remain unseen. Hell, you could run aimlessly around the entire city with all the guards chasing you and still be able to complete the mission. Except, make sure no guards are nearby when you try to use the Fence's door to finish the mission.
Cardia1....yes perhaps you should make a decent hard save just after you
remove the boxes at the start of the next bit... just before you go through the passage to the" fences" part of town..
ok Adsk1... I will look at post 204 and see if I can continue,....thanks:D

Check out post 204 on this thread for some settings changes that will help you get the dagger.
Just make sure you make a copy of the file before editing and save it somewhere other than that directory. I have replayed this mission with the changes just to make sure it works and had no problem getting the dagger. works best with a setting of 2 or 2.5. also after getting the dagger, do a save game, than change the setting to a lower number to continue otherwise the movement sound will sound choppy.

Clearing:
the guy in the showroom has it on his belt:D
Oh, yeah, that's brilliant, he's in the middle of the room and recognizes me every time I try to get to him

Is he standing still? He should be wandering around the room doing his stock take. If he is, then wait for him to pass you and then sneak up and take the key and/or knock him out.
If he is stuck, this is a bug that has been explained before in this thread. If you have already stolen stuff from this room, he is supposed to notice that and run down to the basement to tell the other guards.
So you have two alternatives. Try making some noise that will cause the guy to investiate, and if that doesn't work, you'll probably have to re-start the mission.

Sounds like the same problem I was having when I first started testing my Missions in GL.
First off, the "Fixed" version already contains the Shaders.rar pack which should be in the Rising.zip\System\Shaders folder.
The problem I think you are having was completely resolved for me when I un-installed TDS from my system and re-installed it. However, that is a bit drastic and I did manage to solve the problem another way.
In the root of the Rising.zip folder is a file called user_patch.ini. In that (text) file are two sections entitled [Flesh]. The second one is the default settings.
Copy and paste the first '[flesh]' section into the user.ini file located in the root folder of your TDS install. You will need to remove the original '[flesh]' section from your user.ini.
Hope at least one of these solutions work for you.
Sorry for the late reply.P.C. died a terrible death and just now getting all my Thief stuff reinstalled.
I never found the shaders folder in the Rising FM folder. Not in the old version and also not in the "fixed" version.Anyway I DL'ed them and stuffed it in my game install folder.Copied the flesh data from the patch.ini. I didN't remove the original flesh data ,I just added the new data.Works fine, no more skipping.Thanks.
I still had a bit of game lag,but that was remedied with a new GeForce GT520.game play is smooth as can be.

For anyone having problems with the symbol disappearing I found out why. When I first picked it up I had not read the instructions yet, and it says that it is nothing so I dropped it!! it then fell through the floor and was gone. I reloaded a save when I got the dungeon key and went straight down and in fact it did the same thing!! So read the instructions first!!
Moderators: I did not see the need for spoiler tags but if it is needed I am sorry.
This post mentions the dungeon key, This door to the lower dungeon is locked and I cannot seem to locate this key to get through anywhere, hint on the key location please?

having trouble finding captains rare artifact, I am assuming that the room with the red light above the entrance is his only room, and have went over that room with a fine tooth comb, is this the right location, and if so can you please provide a little nudge in the right direction? Thanks.

Well I have reached 53 attempts to jump that damn gap. I'm thoroughly sick of it. Don't know about anybody else but I find jumping and mantling particularly poorly handled by the game system! There seems to be no relation to what you could physically do in reality.
Can anybody send me a savegame for immediately after that jump .....please!!!:grr:
Edit - managed it on the 57th attempt.
