I recently tried to install thief again, it went through the installation fine but whenever I try to start it up it kickes me back to my desktop and offers me the whole "send error report to microsoft" (which is like screaming for help on a desert island)
I've read that having two processors would mess the game up and I was wondering if possibly the reason it wouldn't work was because I have a dual core. I don't know. :erg:
oh and um...I'm new...don't eat me.

Yes. You need to disable one of the cores (set the affinity) Do a search for Dual Core, and you should find a link to a number of "How 2" for that problem.
Dual core AMD processors and the Intel P4 etc, don't work unless you set the game to run with only one core.

well, got it to work. Turned out to be the processor, codecs, AND the direct3d...arg, couldn't have gotten it to work though without the stuff here. :)

ok, now I have a problem that the FAQs isn't solving.
I already did the dual core fix, it runs, but it still freezes after a few minutes.

are you sure it's working?
alt+tab out of the game in the main menu and check the affinity in task manager
