I'm pretty sure project will be abandoned like NightBlade

Been looking at the multiplayer base for Dark Mod. It's not trivial, but a lot of the work is reworking all the systems that hang on one player, frobbing, objectives, S&R, alerts, etc. All the basic systems are there; just needs to be reconfigured for that, then a few extra systems special for Thievery. It's very much in the realm of humanly possible on a shoestring.
Also, there's that other Doom3 mod project for multiplayer thieving. So now we have 2 teams making 2 TCs where probably 75% of their work (just guessing) is repeating what's already been done and what each other are doing. And I don't think Cry3 by itself compensates for the overlapping work.

This Thievery mod will never be released.
You heard the prediction here first folks.

I'd take that bet. So sad... And the Darkmod is practically begging for a multiplayer branch. The whole effing game is already there! And multiplayer is already there. All it needs is a few systems touched up for the two to talk to each other.
I must be spoiled by my work. Doesn't anybody do cost/benefit analysis? Why take 5 years (or 35 man years; takes a whole team 5-7 people) to do a lackluster job when you can take 1.5 (or 3 man years; could be done with 2 people) to do an awesome one? Does someone need a graph to see 3 years costs less than 35? One is a masters degree; the other is a felony prison sentence. And think of what you could do with an extra 32 years of work...
Edit: That said, I'd be happy myself to play with CryEngine3... It's definitely pretty. It'll be interesting to see what's the best editor/SDK to play with next year, between CryEngine3, id tech4 going open source and getting revamped, then the Rage editor, and Unreal and Source still around... If you just wanted to make a really pretty world to walk around without worrying about the gameplay, there are some great options out there. Really a fun time to be modding.
