I'm really surprised to hear people talking about OM missions that they thought were bad. I havn't played the one you're talking about because I don't have Gold, and while the zombies in T1 did as first seem to taint the mission, I couldn't imagine wishing that a level be ommited from the game:o

You really should play it then.
Anyone for officially replacing Thieve's Guild with Koobze?

In response to YuSef, That is an interesting proposal to possibly overhaul and clean up these missions. If I knew more about Thief editing, I might feel inclined to get that project rolling. However, time is a factor that simply isn't there for me.
I am interested. What would people do if they took on this project? How would you change what already exists?
My idea is not to clean up and overhaul this mission but rather to take this mission and use the background story from this mission in order to create a thief expansion.
The game would probably be full length with 12 to 13 missions. I don't have a detailed story so im just going to give a brief description and then build upon it later if I choose to.
It would begin as usual with Garrett trying to make a living by stealing from fat rich noblemen. Garrett gets himself into trouble by stepping in on another thief guilds "turf". They try to kill him and it doesn't work. Garrett traces his assassins back to their hideout and robs them for everything they're worth. While there he over hears 2 thieves talking about the beginning of a thieves guild war. Garrett learns that multiple Thieve factions are striving for control of the wealth of the city. Garrett finds himself caught between the warring thieve factions. Garrett is well known for his thieving skills and that makes him a target and an opportunity for peoples services. some want his help and some want him dead. It forces Garrett to walk a fine line during the unfolding story. Garrett is forced to take certain actions to preserve his own live that in turn have a great impact upon the power of the factions. Ultimately Garrett does only what is necessary to get himself a big pile of gold and to save his own neck.
Again, I could expand on the story and fill in all the details if I took the time to. I like the idea. The story is flexible enough for me to include any other faction like the Hammers, pagans, or zombies(I know they arent a faction) into the story. I left the middle and ending very vague on purpose. I recently played Thief Gold for the first time... so right now I'm TG crazy. The mod would probably be geared for TG. Though I do love TMA. I would do whatever is easier in order for the mod to get done. so even if it were made using TMA the mod would still have a TG feel to it. :) anyway, that's my rant.

Heh. Sounds fine there.
BULLSHIT TALK FROM THIS PLACE ON
The story seems detailed for meh already heheh. But well, it could work out. Less "usual buisness" stuff and more "secretpassages to a hideout of theirs". But really that 1 mission was unique and probably meant as a 1 timer, cause when he steals often, you should add a twist that they suspect him, otherwise the missions might get too ... similiar. Sure, zombies and hammerites are fine aswell, that would help. But if you really think of 12-13 missions, then there must be added something more. More details? :D
Anyway, don't make it too big with the impact of Thieves in the City, if i understood correctly.
Garrett shouldn't be able, to take down the entire guild, but perhaps make the main plot a big incident or something.
I probably should have read your post twice before posting this load of crap.
Don't wanna let it go to waste, though. Added a poster sign atleast.

The Thieves Guild wasn't exactly my favorite level either, but I also can't imagine wanting to just leave a level out of the game. I agree that some parts of it can be boring/frustrating, but it also has some nice areas too. Like the casino.

From an organic point of view at Thief´s plot things are a bit more logical following Thief Gold instead of TDP.
The Opera and the Mages´Towers level were necessary to give a place for each talisman, giving the proper importance to them, securing them at distant places.
The Guild level served as a way to show Garrett´s skill not only to the player, making him aware that his avatar is capable of humiliating an entire group of stealthy thugs, but also to show his skills to Viktoria.
Viktoria was searching for someone skilled enough and insanely fearless and prideful to take the talismans and the Eye. In TDP she probably discovered Garrett because of his extreme vengeance over Ramirez. To invade a house of someone who ordered your murder and rob everything inside is really an act of courage and pride.
But the Guild level is the top of the cake, showing to Viktoria that the man needed for her mission is the only thief that is not part of the guild and yet manages to rob it. It´s the level that shows Viktoria a giant neon sign pointing to Garrett and saying "Forget those clowns, I´m the crazy one who can survive the task and is willing to do it for money"
