I did something similar in an FM that had a pet gas-breathing burrick who liked people in dark clothing. I let the creature follow me to the shopping mall where I entered the jewelry store. He not only killed the hapless shop owner (didn't mean for that to happen), but two of the nasty guards that materialized once I'd lifted all the jewels.
I'm not evil; just opportunistic! :cheeky:

For those people who ghost: do you ghost right from the offset, or do you go in and have a scout around first, to see what you're going to be up against? Sometimes when I'm playing, I just go in and kill the guards, so that I can explore a bit, then I quit and reload, and play it without killing anyone.

That's it, moria. I try Ultimate Thief Mode for every new mission. That's no saves, first time only so only one chance. Doesn't work with Ghosting really. And I'm not very good at Ultimate either since my default style is Ghosting. For me the reload keys are too accessible. But I'm learning. Problem is in Ultimate Mode with no saves to fall back on once I've got four or five hours invested I get kind of immobilized -- afraid to have to restart if my move doesn't work.

I would find it just too dam' frustrating, because I'm always doing stupid things like falling off beams, or trying to blackjack a guard just as he turns round.

Well, now I've killed a guard, well, maybe I should change my principle as "Kill when necessary"

I agree. I've only recently tried this new style of ghosting without reloading, but I absolutely MUST save in the bonehoard when I'm at those damn ladders that Garrett can't quite seem to jump onto without falling to his death (the ladder leading up to the Mystic's Heart in particular, and of course, the ones in the Quintus tomb). This is the only concession I make to traditional "ghosting" rules.

Hahahaha! This turned out to be a good thread!
I love the 'clumsy' comments - quite funny! Hehe :laff:
I too still seem to Jump without wanting to "I heard that" says the guard.
I'm pretty good about not falling off stairs, ledges, beams. But even
being the Master Thief I am, I still fall from latters or can't grab them
before plummeting to my death or loosing a bunch of hit points.
I have 'ghosted' T1 & T2, takes much much longer, though rewarding in
itself -- takes a massive amount of patience, and can sometimes take
away from the enjoyment.
As far as not saving -- one word for me -- FOOL! :joke: Even though my hardware is rather excellent -
2.0 GHz Barton core CPU
1 Gig of ECC 400MHz RAM on Gigabyte nVidia chipset @ Dual Channel DDR
GeForce 6200 with 512MB DDR onboard
- it will on occasion quit back to windows, restart, or lock-up -- though not often - it will do this just as I've spent over an hour in a mission, finding 95% of loot, all secrets and heading for the exit....ARRRGggg!
I never assassinate since my newby days, but I do Blackjack guards often.
My funnest ever blackjack 'rampage' was a T3 mission in which five guards
were in pursuit, having lost my bearing I was running where ever, funny
thing being that along the way I knocked out about 10 guards along the way that were walking in front of me so that they wouldn't join the posse.
Speaking of Blackjacking, though somewhat rare, in one mission I got 4
Blackjacks "while air-borne". :sly:
Did anyone know that you can catch broadheads in mid air? It's tricky, but I've done it at least 3 times.

I like the whole no save idea, but can't do it. I have tried it, but when I nearly complete a mission, then die, I quit the game. I can't be bothered playing the same mission again.
Often tho, when I play I try to limit the number of times I save, and do not realod unless I die

Sometimes I like to ghost.
Sometimes I like to KO.
Sometimes I like to be in serial killer mode and stab everything to death.
It depends on the mood I guess.
Sometimes I like to KO someone and drop them from a high place or throw them in water or on a fire.
It's a game and how you play it doesn't make you a better or worse person than anyone else.
You have probably just said most of the "truths" within our "gaming fun", Ape!
(Btw, Postal2 seems to really depend on this sort of "player independence" as a personal frustration-release mechanism, in the form of a game. And I do a form of "sneaky bastard" game-play, while quietly thieving and booby-trapping in P2, all the time!)
"Ghosting a Thief map" might sound like the perfect replay, for some.
And I will always be trying for that within my very first T3 game, this week.
But I will be saving at the very beginning of each level and once, within each.
(And just for T3 game system-errors, saving seems to be a necessity, folks?)
And if I can't be a Ghost or simply don't want to be a "perfect player", then the blade, blackjack, broadheads or whatever will liberally used to simply enjoy my way of playing T3, you know.
(And if I really start to enjoy T3, then I'll start another group like I did below.)

In the maw of chaos (T1) unless I was playing Lytha style, I'd always throw a good many ratmen in the lava.
