I sure hope the game gets better, so far (Early into Iron Cloud level.) I have mostly been fighting soldiers. That corridor near the end of Broken Wings with all the kleers, kamikazes, etc. filled me with hope that Serious Sam goodness was finally starting to show itself but then came No Place to Hide, one of my least favourite levels in the entire Serious Sam series, right down there with Sewers. Turning off turrets by looking for switches around confusing city streets and hiding from a helicopter while looking for a RL and shooting soldiers left and right? What the fuck Croteam? As annoying as the helis were in Serious Sam 2 at least you could gun them down with any gun. No cover all man my hairy ass.
And what is up with the gun sounds? The only gun so far that actually packs a sonic punch is the coach gun, I can make beefier pistol and AR sounds with my mouth.
I'll hang in there. Everybody seems to say the game starts weak and gets better as it progresses. Aside from that sharp decline during the span of No Place to Hide this seems to be true so we'll see what the next set of levels deliver, hopefully what the name of the game promises.

I actually liked No Place To Hide; it was pretty frantic on Hard and a nice change of pace. In fact I've really liked how they've varied the pace so far (up to about level 9), with the only naff bits for me being some of early the boss fights when you've only got the pistol and shotgun.
Regarding your concerns however: the hordes do come and more frequently too. I believe you're coming up to some and just wait till you get the minigun.

Got a little further and, by Christ, is the pace ramping up. Getting backed into a corner and having to fight your way out, sprinting and leaping over rubble, to grab some precious health/ammo/armour before turning to face the horde again, is exhilirating after all these years of modern shooters. I'm totally crap at it now though and I've had to bump down the difficulty to normal. :o
One staggeringly dumb decision though: the hovering witch-things. Not only do they take a lot of hits before going down and teleport away frequently, thereby taking a while to kill, but they can hold you in place for a few seconds which is obviously a barrel of laughs when there are 20 Kleers bearing down on you. What the hell where they thinking?

Well, I'll be damned, the action went absolutely apeshit shortly after blowing up the highway in Iron Cloud. Kleers, gnaars and arachnoids in waves that range from manageable to running-backwards-while-yelling-what-the-fuck-is-this-and-holding-down-mb1.
Finally. Welcome back Sam. I missed you.

Nothing to be ashamed of. You should always play Serious Sam games on Normal if you're playing them for the first time, even if you're an experienced FPS player. Serious Sam on Normal is comparable to many other shooters on Hard.

I used to play the first two games on hard though. But like I said, I'm rusty. :)

I always regretted playing the first Sam on Hard difficulty. It was fine for about the first half of the game, and then it started to detract from my enjoyment. I finished it, but the final levels were just horrendous.
