This is just first impressions really, I've only played up to the third stage called Infiltration, it's quite unnerving that I keep finding the bloody skeletons of fellow FEAR soldiers.
These guys are SFOD, special forces. FEAR team is you, Jankovsky, the asian chick and the radio guy.

Ah yes, they kept mentioning them in the briefings and I was wondering who they were talking about.

Well I just finished FEAR1 & 2 + expensions and this is WOT OI FINK
FEAR
The combat is very satisfying and the story is properly unnerving, especially towards the end when you find out what they did to Alma. Although it's only 8 hours it does feel a bit long. The plot doesn't take many twists and your objective remains "Find and Eliminate Paxton Fettel" thoughout almost the entire game.
Extraction Point
The story really doesn't have anywhere to go in this one, it's just an additional 3 hours of gameplay.
Perseus Mandate
Better than EP. You play another silent soldier in this one who nonetheless has some sort of importance for Alma as she keeps showing up and trying to freak you out. As usual the gameplay is solid and the scares aren't scary. Take a note from Amnesia, developers, if the player is to be frightened there needs to be a real sense of lifethreatening-danger present. Alma and Paxton walking around is slomo and smoldering to ashes looks nice and all, but, it's not scary at all. And after you've seen it a dozen times it just gets boring.
FEAR 2: Project Origin
Apparently not even the developers felt that the stories in EP and PM were worth anything as they're completely ignored in this sequel. The story in this one has some alright bits that builds on what happened in FEAR1. Gameplay-wise it felt very simplified at first(they've taken away the LEANFUNCTION!), but after a few firefights I was convinced that the combat is even better in this one than in the original. In this one you play a soldier called "Bucket". He's not the same dude as in the first game yet he's exactly like him. Silent, able to slow down time with his mind, and Alma has a crush on him.
FEAR 2: Reborn
At 2 or 3 hours, this is the shortest chapter. In this one you play one of the Replica soldiers who gets convinced by Paxton Fettel to go rogue and start killing all the other replicas. Uhh... I'm not sure why. I though Fettel was controlling the other Replica's as well? And Alma has ofcourse taken a SPECIAL INTEREST in this dude as well. You know in Fear 1 it felt like we had SOMETHING SPECIAL, ALMA, BUT NOW ITS STARTING TO SEEM LIKE YOUR INTEREST GETS PEAKED BY ANY SWINGING DICK WITH A HIGH BODYCOUNT. YOU SLUT.
And also why is Alma trying to kill me? Isnt she on the same side as Paxton Fettel who is bossing me around here? And didn't Fettel die in the first one? But then he was in the second one as well but only as a ghost I think? But at the end of this one he shows up but then it turns out that he's only a ghost but then the replica soldier that you've been playing the whole time takes of his mask and it turns out that HE IS PAXTON FETTEL!
You know, sometimes.... I get the feeling that the developers just dont care anymore.
John Carpenter is onboard to help out with the story for the third FEAR game. But it's not like that guy has done anything good since the 80's. I have a sneaking suspicion that adding another dude that just dont give a shit anymore isn't gonna help the story any.

Monolith had absolutely nothing to do with XP or PE. The only "canon" for FEAR is FEAR 1/2 and Reborn.
I pretty much agree with your thoughts on the games, though. I really enjoyed the 3 parts that Monolith developed, and I hope they have significant input into 3. I highly suspect the new one is going to suck like every third-party Monolith licensed game has to this point.

Fear 2 was a vapid, toned down, generic, but competent shooter in the end.
It missed just about all of the milestones of the original, had more open levels that still, incredibly, felt awfully cramped, and was just about completely medicore from the story to the gameplay. Felt like a forced-widescreen rehash. Far cry from the original. Was Bjossi the one who said the shotgun sounded like wet farts in the wind? Well it sounds exactly like that, maybe with an entire ream of tissue paper damping the sound more often than not, so kudos, Bjoss. Way to neuter one of the most fun guns in the original, 'lith!
Unfortunately, I can't openly condemn the game because 'lith still knows how to make a halfway decent shooter, so it's exactly that: halfway fucking decent. Nothing's broken broken but it dun stand the fuck out either, and that's the worst part about it in the end. Fear 1 was grey yet awesome, but Fear 2's just grey, and I can't recommend or hate on the fucking game.
Also, I'm high, and this may not be the most lucid post I've ever made, and I might regret it 8 hours from now when I wake up, but I don't care, and if you do, well you can fuck yourself with a 12-inch camel dildo! :thumb: (Are camels twelve inches though? I have no idea, ah who fucking cares.)

Alma is insane, to put it mildly. Also, she was controlling Fettel during the first game, he may have broken that control in Reborn, making both Fettel and Foxtrot 813 her targets.
As for your other questions, Fettel does get killed, but he seems to have inherited the ability of his mother to stay around after that. Also, all the replica soldiers are clones of Fettel, so it'd kinda make sense that the replica soldiers look like him (or at least deformed versions of him). Foxtrot 813 may just have been a lot less deformed than all the others.

Or Fettel's control of him consequentially made him get a facelift.
Also Sulphur is dead fucking wrong about FEAR 2, but we forgive him.

Condemned > FEAR

Absolutely fucking not. Condemned 1 is solid and C2 is great if you ignore the story but FEAR is by far the better series.
