"Accept the challenge from Lady British and save the land of Britannia."
LADY British?! WTF?! Political Correctness in action?
Why are there multiple classes and why is it Multiplayer? There is only one Ultima protagonist and he's some blonde male douche from Texas.
Ultima did have multiple classes though, especially ultima 4, even though it only affected starting stats .

The sad part is: not only will they screw up building something on ultima, they'll also screw up doing something on what made ultima online one of the most unique mmos still.

UO still exists to this day. I don't see the point of reinventing the wheel. All they need to do is transfer it to a "freemium" model and boom, you'll have fresh blood.

Actually, it also affected allowed equipment (you can't give plate mail to a shepard) and whether you could cast magic.
I'm definately in "wait and see" mode.
Although in other news, I'm currently replaying Ultima 7 and loving it :D

The more I know!
I'm actually playing ultima 7 in a more serious way for the first time, it's quite fantastic once I tweaked it up with exult so that interface would work a bit better.
I love the interactive world!, droppable items is a rarity these days! It definitely is the precursor to the modern elderscrolls.

Ultima Online is very different from what it was back then, much of the game elements have been changed.

I actually find the movement and combat just feels a bit wrong in Exult, so I'm sticking with the original EXE in Dosbox. Just finished raiding Alagnar's Warehouse and grabbed his notebook last play session.

Oy. However, that review links to (
http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/03/09/lets-reboot-ultima/) an interesting thought experiment by Richard Cobbett about how
Ultima could be rebooted. Definitely some cool ideas in there.
I did briefly play this iPad abomination and yes, it is that bad. The writing is sickeningly horrible.

If I had the goddamn willpower and art skills, I'd do my own reboot to help turn a blind eye to the prolonged and sustained rape of the franchise by EA. Garriot's new project is... mildly interesting, but what I want is an oldschool Ultima from the days it was about inhabiting a world by thrusting yourself into the issues at hand, or simply choosing to say 'fuck it all' and go bake bread for a spell. I have a feeling I'm not alone in that regard.
