I am bashing
you in your capacity as a moderator at another forum (mainly because even at TTLG you don't seem capable of separating the two, even though you're not a mod here), not bashing moderators in general.
I never said you were bashing mods in general. Yes, I know you are bashing me.... which is why I responded to your post. All this is obvious from the course of discussion so far, even though you denied it initially. YOU were the one who used the word moderator first, I quote
"...of a certain mod". So, that's why I asked if this thread was for bashing mods - I was simply responding to your own comment. It has nothing to do with not being able to separate the two. Of course I know I'm not a moderator here. So can we please return to my original request, ie. provide links, rather than straying far from the point. Thank you.
Quote:
And I have to explain this to you why? Can you be any more deliberately obfuscating
You misunderstand. I am merely asking you to provide examples so that I can make sense of your grievances.
Quote:
Just the fact that I'm not the only person in these forums who's criticized you and your moderatorship (i.e. moderatorship at the other website forum - just want to be perfectly clear here) should be giving you a clue.
Not really.
Indeed there probably are a few more who have criticised moderation on the official forum; though I've only seen the one here (about me) and I asked the OP to provide examples... but this was not forthcoming; as is the case here.
Quote:
But you insist on playing deliberately obtuse and twisting the posts of others to suit yourself, so what's the point.
Actually, if you read back you will see that I haven't twisted anything. It is you that has done that. I am not being obtuse, I've clearly asked for further information from you, and I've done so in a polite manner.
Quote:
I don't have to justify myself to you
True, you don't. But imo... you
can't. If you can, please do so. Thank you.
Quote:
and if you were to go back and actually read the posts of our fellow Taffers (in other threads as well as this one) regarding general opinion of you and your method of moderating perhaps you might actually get it.
Please provide links... then I'll get it. Provided they are based on truth and justified, of course. Don't bother with the one aforementioned as I dealt with it in the same manner. I asked for proof... but it wasn't shown.
Quote:
Do you actually have such a selective memory that you can't retain the past-posted criticisms by others of you & the moderating methods at the T4 forum that you've read or are you that seriously myopic?
No, on all accounts. You see...I'm not aware of any criticism that is fair and justified. This is why I'm asking you to provide links.
Quote:
Btw; anyone who's posted their opinion of the EM Thief forums has done so in the light of having had the experience of being a member over there; but if you want to continue to pretend that all is sweetness and light there, then be my guest.
I'm not addressing anybody's criticisms of EM and the Thief forums. I'm addressing only your statement on this forum. Having said that, if there are others here who would like to say something, or ask a question, I would be more than happy to listen/answer.
Quote:
So you may go on your merry little way, my dear; continuing to blindly alienate people with your self-righteousness, etc. Frankly, you and your demands for links as proof of this and proof of that have become tedious and boring. It's not my problem that you can't retain or refuse to remember any of the numerous criticisms of you (& EM's T4 forum) posted in the past.
You initially bash me for apparently being, I quote
"puffed-up, self-grandizing, & condescending attitude" and yet, clearly, this is exactly how your posts come across, not mine.
It isn't unreasonable for me to ask you politely to provide proof and examples. It is more unreasonable of you to deny it... seeing as it appears to be what you base your rants on. If you can't do so, then I must assume that you are just skirting around the edges to avoid what I have asked of you.
I'm not here for any unnecessary drama, it's not really my thing. I just wish to have the opportunity to clear up any misconceptions about Eidos rules and moderator duties. I've invited comments and questions from others and I welcome these with an open mind.. I hope that you can be just as considerate and provide me with what I have asked for. Thanks.

@thiefessa
This isn't a courtroom. No one needs to provide any proof of anything . Anyone who's visited those forums can use their own experiences to make up their own mind about what goes on over there. And as you can see, most have. Actions speak louder than words and all that nonsense.
thiefessa on 18/1/2012 at 01:11
I agree that people make up their own minds. I simply welcome the opportunity to discuss any grievances or misconceptions - but I obviously can't respond properly to them without proof, links, quotes etc. It's a reasonable request.

Whatever is going on at the EM forums, it was bad enough for me to leave the VERY FIRST forum I ever joined. It was bad enough for me to leave part of a community that I loved and poured years of my life and much effort into. The "rules" over there have been taken too far. Part of the problem is that Eidos Corporate can't seem to figure out the difference between simply maintaining good community relations and divulging precious secrets about T4.
While the Mods do not make the rules, they do have a choice whether or not to stick around and enforce them. It's an unpaid position. Had I been a Mod and asked to enforce moderation the way it's being done over there now, I simply would not have done it. I would have walked...and in all honesty, you couldn't pay me enough to delete posts the way they're being deleted over there.
At the end of the day, we all have choices to make. As much as it saddened me to leave the forums at Eidos, I'm happy with the choice and for standing up for what I believe in.

Agreed Renz. My impatience is causing me to be a tad pessimistic. Deep down I still harbor hope that T4 will exceed all expectations.
Way deep down.
;)
I'll allay your fears now, and tell exactly how Thief 4 is gonna turn out.
Overall, it'll be a good, faithful entry in the series. The levels will be large and open ended, with multiple ways to achieve victory for each mission. That said, it probably won't have a mission quite as large and open ended as that one from Thief 2 you remember so fondly. And lastly, it will, and by will, I mean it WILL, have some modern gaming concessions that some people will absolutely have a full on balls to the wall freakout epileptic bitch fit over. It'll probably be something dumb, too. Like the game switching to 3rd person when you climb rope arrows and ladders.
So Thief 4 will be like DX:HR in quite a few ways. It'll have more in common with the old games, won't be nearly as dumbed down, than most people here are expecting. But it'll have a few changes to the formula, both good and bad, that keep it from being universally loved by the fanbase. I'll even go out on a limb now and say that the purists will loath it.
There you go. The future.

Oh Renz, if your predictions come true, I could live with that.
@Brethren: seconded.

Have you played DX:HR yet, Dia? While it wasn't perfect in all regards, you could see that EM knew exactly what made DX good, and didn't sacrifice anything to the lowest common denominator. They even went out of their way to make a mouse-centric UI specifically for the PC version, similar to the setup in the original game. In this day and age, that's practically pandering bordering on asskissing to the PC crowd.
I have a feeling Thief 4 will be a similar case. It won't be exactly the same as the old games, and it will have a few changes for the sake of modernization that might not always turn out for the best. But they'll still try to give it the same...gonna sound corny here...heart and soul.
I have a feeling we're going to end up with another Thief, and not just something superficially similar with the Thief logo slapped onto it. The only question in my mind is how good of a Thief it'll be. And right now, we don't have nearly enough info to make any judgement calls.

:laff:
I played DX:HR & loved it, though I have to admit rather shamefacedly that I was all prepared to hate it at first. At this point there seems to be so much speculation regarding T4 that I find myself fluctuating between anticipation and dread. As long as it's better than Deadly Shadows I'll be content. Oh yeah .... and has rope arrows. ;)

Nothing corny about that, imo. I sincerely hope with all my heart & soul that EM does just that!

Looking back on Deadly, if only the movement wasnt broken, I would have enjoyed the game so much more. Despite the myriad flaws, it was the broken movement that killed it for me. All I really ask at this point is please make the movement work properly!!!!!
