Thank you for your fair and mature input, NH.
I completely understand the points you've raised about T4 but, unfortunately, the release of information regarding the game is not EM's decision to make.
As I said, there is a difference between simple public relations and releasing information about the game. The former would go a long way to helping people not even care over the latter. I also wasn't criticizing Eidos Montreal for their policies, but rather Eidos Corporate....the parent company.

The rules on the forum have been the same for years. They are standard rules typical of many official discussion boards and I believe they are fair and sensible.

As I said, the enforcement and interpretation of those rules has been going too far. I know the rules, but I'm not sure why the Mods aren't seeing what others are seeing in that respect. I've never seen that type of censorship in all my years there....nor in my own time as a Moderator on the Ion Storm forums. Sorry, but the censorship has been going way too far. :(

That is why we were surprised to see you leave for the reasons you stated because nothing has changed in that respect. Posts/threads are only deleted or locked when they violate rules and this procedure has always been the same too. Mods don't have a choice here - they are expected to enforce the rules otherwise they shouldn't be doing that job.
The interpretation of those rules has been allowed to go too far. The enforcement too broad. I think perhaps the mods are a bit too close to the situation to see just how far it has gone lately, but that's no longer a concern to me...that's why I left, and I will not be back.
I shall leave it at that.

What game?
Oh but wait. Only a (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/01/17/stealing-a-glimpse-of-thief-iv/) MASSIVE Thi4f update over at Rock Paper Scissors.
(I have nothing to say about the Eidos Forum because I've got better things to do than sit in a waiting room reading the same copy of TVQuick for 2 years, except to say that it's abviously very, very silly and a piss-poor show from anyone who's got anything to do with it.)

What would you suggest be done in regard to public relations?

Could you provide examples of the type of censorship you disagree with. I can then state the point of view of a moderator with regard to the ToU. Thank you.

If I was Garrett, I would sneak into the EM office with rope arrows and taff that priceless information from Thi4f Game Design Document, just to get a peace of mind. After that, if I was a pre-mission store window, master taffers could purchase bits of that information as tip scrolls.

It's pretty simple. Create relationships to foster positive relations. The current approach is to destroy the evidence of dissension and displeasure to create a positive atmosphere. It doesn't work that way. It has to be real..and that takes work.
Foster creativity.
You're not deleting text on a page, you're deleting someone's thoughts...and that is down right rude.
Hold a monthly "getting to know the devs" Q and A. How many Devs are there now? The current number should keep people busy for over a year I'm sure.
The ultimate goal here should be to build relationships. The current mindset is to erase any ill will, rather than earn good will by way of creative initiatives. That philosophy will get the Eidos forums nowhere. The Q/A's do not have to be related to the development of T4 in any way other than they are getting to interact with the Developers behind it. The Thief community is a group of creators...touch base with them. Let them get to know the people behind the next Thief game and I guarantee the ill feelings will turn around. Anyway, I left the forums and that is the end of it. However you folks choose to run the forums is up to you. All the best.
Amusingly, the Rock Paper Shotgun link took me to their front page where they are protesting censorship....as are many sites today. lol

We all feel your frustration, webe. A lot of Taffers don't even bother to stop by this forum anymore due to sheer boredom from the lack of news of
any kind.
But our lack of news is better quality than their lack of news so I still come here. :)
I haven't visited Eidos Thief 4 forum for a year or so. I find it an ugly site, really difficult to read and all teeth and no trousers anyway. I shall continue to come here for any news, even if there isn't any.

Although I have an account there, I've barely used the Eidos forums over the years. Just curious, what kind of posts are getting deleted? Is it pretty much anything remotely anti-Eidos or anti-Thief4? If so, that's pretty sad and pathetic. If you can't defend your own company and/or products without censoring public opinion, you shouldn't be in business. It's safe to say LGS would never have done this.
Also, it's amusing to see thiefessa asking for examples of censorship, as if anyone were documenting or taking notes of all this as it happened. Pretty tough to cite a post or thread when it's been completely removed, wouldn't you say? :laff: The simple fact that it's happened at all is damning enough.

:cheeky: Thats a good point!
Also, if anyone was to actually be keeping track it would be jtr7, but I doubt hes interested in this drivel anymore, or maybe even banned or somesuch.
Finally, thiefessa, I told you to lurk more didnt I? :p
