I think the game is pretty well balanced, but if you don't play your character/class well you might have some trouble. I'm currently a level 19 Thief/Assassin and even with some killer enchanted items and a lot of points put into strength and endurance I'm no match for the stronger creatures I find in the wilderness. OTOH, I'm an assassin, so I shouldn't be trying to brawl with most enemies. In Thief, if something attacks you do you just rush headfirst into a fight with your sword or bow, or do you try to run away and hide? Heck, even the "zombies don't like burricks" strategy works. If I'm attacked by something and know I can't beat it in a fight, I run like hell to a nearby known location with friendlies and let them kill it. Otherwise I use stealth.
Even at level 19 and 1st rank Fighter/2nd rank Arena I can tell I'm going to have some trouble with upcoming quests for both factions, and I really like that since it forces me to concentrate on doing what my character does well. Likewise, I can tell that even the relatively early Thieves and Dark Brotherhood quests would be almost impossible to complete with a character without stealth skills. Struggling to continue with the fighter/magic oriented quests because of my character build makes it more likely I'll replay the game several times with multiple characters.

A fun thing to do in Thief is to get enemies killed without actually doing the killing yourself. This is just as fun in Oblivion. I'm in the Dark Brotherhood and I consider it a personal challenge to try and approach each assignment that way. A bounty on your head is a bad thing, a gross mark of shame and I refuse to do anything which gets me a bounty. I once got my horse Shadowmere to kill somebody who I just could not manage to kill without getting a bounty. That was the one I'm proudest of so far.

Guys, guys, dont you know there is a difficulty slider in the game? YOU CAN MAKE IT EASIER.:weird:
I would have to agree that Oblivion overall is a bit harder tho
PeeperStorm on 14/5/2006 at 16:10
Really? There's a difficulty slider? Next thing you'll be telling me that I can change the monitor resolution or remap keys or something.
sNeaksieGarrett on 14/5/2006 at 16:24
I hope ur just joking cause... WOW. Anyway, yea there is a difficulty slider, all you do is go to options-->gameplay-->then there is a difficulty slider right there. Its just like morrowind, morrowind had the same thing. Some times you got to wonder what people are smoking.:tsktsk:

I thought that maybe the eye-rolling graphic would successfully communicate the sarcasm of my post. Obviously my faith in the inherent intelligence of humanity is misplaced.

What? There was an eye-rolling smiley in your post? What's a smiley?
