hmm interesting will have to find that balloon. Its kinda cheating though, base jump means off a solid, immoveable object like mountains or buldings. Apparently the highest the devs could get was 1550 (from a mountain)
hehe Just Cause 2 = Base Jump simulator

I managed to get a 263 metre parachute climb, but I've got no idea how it works.
Regarding the hot air balloon, apparently you can tow it with a plane and that's how people have been getting silly heights.

Totally agree that it's not really a base jump, but I thought I'd try it because the Mile High Club counts as one too.

I've got 500m parachute climb. It's a simple matter of landing higher then you started. Do a pull-parachute to get launched, the climb by grappling onto things, then holding back on the move control to redirect your forward velocity upwards.
Useful, since it lets you regain altitude and thus long distance parachute fly.
Got the mission for the mile high club, only to discover I had to -prevent- it from being blown up. Guys, don't put a flying whorehouse in the game if you're not gonna lets us blow it up.

I'd get a higher score than all of you if I weren't of the persuasion that parachute climbing is WRONG. It's not natural. :nono:

So is base jumping and grapple surfing. So why aren't you bitching about those, huh? You giant hypocrite.
Also still sad because I'm poor.

I've played the demo for about an hour or so.
Whilst it's great fun, I'm a bit concerned that it's going to become overly repetitive all too quickly. The enemies seem to take a hell of a lot of punishment before they go down, and seem to respawn near infinitely.
Hmmmmm!

The demo has a lot of very open areas which do seem to have the respawning enemies, but the bases and most settlements can be cleared out for a while, before reinforcements come.
I was concerned it would be repetitive too, and it kinda is, but its so damn fun that it doesn't really matter. I'm 17% of the way through the story and I've played for 26 hours so far.
