Saying that THQ is "putting Obsidian to work" makes it sound like Obsidian has their hands tied. They're doing the SP game because they want to, and frankly I can't blame them, it would probably be a fun license to work with and apparently Trey/Matt are heavily involved with the design so it's not your typical licensed shovelware. Working with the Star Wars/D&D/Dungeon Siege licenses was significantly closer to doing shovelware imho.

Eh, could be. To each his own. Personally I think Obsidian's talents lie with story, world-building, and immersion, all of which are somewhat mitigated by the choice of IP.
