Hate to break it to you folks, but no matter how much of an ass Tim Schafer might be, pissing off on an entire contingent of people -- the man knows how to make games, and he knows how to make 'em shine.
QFTMFT.
If I only purchased books, films, music and games made by people of unimpeachable character, well then I wouldn't be indulging in those things very much at all. However they are made by human beings and consequently some of them are pricks, some of them are idiots and some of them might say something stupid from time to time but as long as they are not totally reprehensible then I don't give a fuck, as long as the work is good.
While I do think Schafer's comment was gross generalization and a bit of a slap in the face to the PC audience, he is generally a good guy and more importantly he makes great games.

Played the demo on PS3, all I can say is fuck yea!
Some sound issues that were present in the early trailer are still there though, and the voice acting is a bit naff in some bits of the demo, but it should still be pretty epic.

It seems clear to me that Schafer's comment was flippant and coming out of a frustration with tons of hate mail rather than actually attempting to denigrate the PC as a gaming platform.
Also, for all the "I won't support Tim" people: there ARE other people making this game. The percentage of the money you spend on this game that reaches Schafer's pockets is microscopic. It's not a one-man show.

No, but he seems to think it is. In the end it's not his decision whether the game makes it to PC or not- if the game is successful enough a PC version will be made because unlike TimmyS most people realize PC gaming is a large market.
Honestly? I still hope a Grim Fandango fan pees on him.

Capital idea, a subscription service I'd never actually use after the first month yet would still cost me $15 a month!
No thanks.

As someone who just bought an Xbox 360, I have this to say to all the console haters:
thbpthbpthbpthbpth!!! :p
In all seriousness, I find the whole idea of platform-exclusive games not just really fucking aggravating personally, but actually bad for the game industry as a whole. I didn't get too worked up when I read that BL was going to be a console exclusive, however, because I'd been planning to get a PS3 and/or a 360 when the prices came down anyway.
Truthfully, I want 'Legend to be a huge success just because Kotick and Blactivision were such cocksuckers about the game: they cut it loose because they didn't think they could exploit it like Guitar Hero, then they tried to block the release when EA picked it up. I don't want to hear about how the games industry is a business, it was a fucking dick move. Psychonauts never got the audience it deserved and I didn't want to see BL go the same route.
I don't know if this played into Schafer et al's thinking, but this quote from Stardock's Brad Wardell seems to fit right into this discussion:
Quote:
I started out as a big Games for Windows Live advocate. I intended for Elemental to be on Games for Windows Live, but then as we got closer, the Xbox group took it over more and more. And they have things where, oh, if you want to use Games for Windows Live to update your game, you have to go through [their] certification. And if you do it more than X number of times, you have to pay money. It's like, "My friends, you can't do that on the PC."
On the console, I don't have to update my game because an anti-virus program got an update and is now identifying my VB scripts as viruses and I have to apply an emergency patch. That would just add insult to injury. We've had to upgrade our games plenty of times over the years, not because we found some bug, but because some third-party program, or driver, or whatever screwed it up. If Games for Windows Live maintains that strategy and they take over, I'm done. I'm not making PC games. I would be done.

His entire argument is immediately invalidated. It goes downhill from there.

PC releases requiring more QA due to being an open platform with endless variations in hardware configurations? STOP THE PRESSES, WE'VE NEVER HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE. It's a tired and weak excuse when justifying the avoidance of that platform.
Schafer not releasing the game on PC is a stupid move, especially since his games have a built-in fanbase on that platform.
One console developer. Capcom, has embraced the platform. They've released a number of optimised ports that play to the PC's strengths since Lost Planet, thus they've won over a new audience.

Schafer not releasing the game on PC
I'm pretty sure it's been established that Schafer is not self-publishing. He makes a game, he designs a game, he may have a degree of influence, but EA (or, in Ye Olde Days, Activision) decides what to publish it on. The console market was deemed (probably justifiably) more lucrative, and that is where development focus went. If it sells a huge amount of copies, it'll probably go to PC. I'm sure Schafer would be happy with that. Regardless, it's not his decision.
