in other words, traditional heavy metal.
there are so many subgenres it could get into, but it doesn't seem like it's going to.
i for one would like to see a game utilizing electric wizard as the soundtrack.

Hmmm... Not quite sure what to think of this. It's pretty much unanimous that Schafer is one of the best game designers around. I'm currently playing through Grim Fandango again and every part of it oozes with inspired moments.
Brutal Legend however... I dunno. I know that the video doesn't show any gameplay but it does set the scene. And I'm not quite sure if it's one that I really click with at the moment. As it's Schafer however it's definately something to keep a very close eye on though... although I second people's disappointment at the lack of a PC version.
And does anyone else think this screen looks awfully "God-of-War"?

if t.schaefer would make a HALO ripoff game I would camp in line.
I am really embarassed to say this but.....I am seriously considering buying a 360 only for this game.........I found myself checking out offers yesterday...
please don't hurt me, i'm weak, i know....:(

Same here!
To be honest the only Schafer game that I was instantly attacted too by concept alone was Grim Fandango. Full Throttle/Psychonauts(just got it last week and I'm lovin every minute of it) didn't interest me until I played (and then loved) them. I'm sure Brutal Legend will be no different.

Was this in regards to my Spinal Tap comaprison? Because in that case:
in other words, tongue-in-cheek heavy metal parody/homage

yes, yes it was, and in spite of ST's parodious nature they still played what counts as traditional heavy metal.
actually from what i understand, the actors have continued to reprise their roles for years later for various events, effectively giving a sense of quasi-reality to their band.

I was just making it clear that I have no love for actual traditional heavy metal but I do have much love for Spinal Tapesque tomfoolery. And therefore letting people, who are worried about the concept, know that even if you don't like heavy metal music you could still like Brutal Legend since it is taking what looks like a Spinal Tap direction.

"Necromancy Warning: The post you're replying to is more than 30 days old." <- Very formal, come to think of it.
Anyway, new trailer for Brutal Legend: (

So, yeah, I've been keeping an occasional eye out for this title, and then here's this awesome trailer, with the massive added kudos of Priest's Electric Eye as a soundtrack, and I'm all excited and shit, thinking "Fuck yes!" and then... well, then I notice Platform(s): Xbox 360, PlayStation 3. Turning my "Fuck yes!" into a plain old "Fuck!". They say hope dies last, but still...

In all fairness, it's not like you weren't warned: Schafer left PC gaming after Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts showing up on the PC was only a fluke of the Majesco deal.
Also, I have never seen a game that more heavilly promoted a voice actor. Who are they marketing to? "JACK BLACK IS IN IT THEREFORE THIS WILL BE A GREAT GAME!"
But hey, I presume EA knows more about marketing than I do.
