It seems no one has actually discussed playing the game?
Well I tried it on my PS3, a little disappointed that it didn't run at 1080p but it still looks really nice regardless. This is a fun title, the "drifting" is probably a bit unrealistic, I don't know much about planes, but makes for good fun. Dodging a barrage of missiles by drifting around and stalling and crazy maneuvers and then getting in line with the enemy to lock on is quite fun. I'm a bit annoyed that the Manual mode has that dodgy far away isometric camera, I don't see why they couldn't have just given us a slightly pulled out 3rd person camera so that it would stay intense. As is it feels a bit detached, but maybe I'll get used to it. I haven't done much dog fighting in the Automatic mode but even that was entertaining. So all in all I'm happy with it, I just wish the Manual mode camera didn't pan out so far, taking you too far from the gameplay.

Yes, the camera in "Assists Off" mode has generated a lot of negative feedback.
I've downloaded the demo, but have yet to get around to playing it. I'll try to do so tomorrow.

Raven Shield/Athena Sword are certainly NOT weak. Especially for a fan of this sort of thing. ... The multiplayer is the strong point, and there are tons of mods and plenty of people playing online at any given time.
I don't do MP, how looks the campaign? I mean variety of environment, tactical opportunities vs. linearity, replayability?
Oh, I've just put Mass Effect aside for a moment and started GRAW1... so far so good (and runs perfectly on max settings), but I hoped I'd be able to create more sophisticated tactical plans on the map. Teammate AI is satisfying for the most part, however like EvaUnit pointed out, enemies are mostly clueless dummies waiting for headshot from behind the corner, unable of any advanced defensive tactics (at least what I can see in first 3 missions).
You see, GRAW is my first Ghost Recon title, so I didn't know what to expect, but before the only true tactical shooter I played was Rogue Spear (Splinter Cell doesn't belong here), which has set my expectations of difficulty and necessity of precise tactical planning in this genre quite high. Squad tactics in GRAW is quite more improvised.

For tactical FPSes, the SWAT series is worth checking out. I've only played SWAT3, it's a great game. I've heard only good things about SWAT4.
Of course action is improvised like GRAW, but it hasn't been dumbed down into an action game for consoles like Rainbow Six was with Vegas.

Dude, just get and play the game already! :) If you liked Rogue Spear, you'll most likely like Raven Shield too. I spent endless hours messing around in SP, creating plans, doing missions in different modes, etc. It's basically the same as Rogue Spear (the PC version that is).
Btw, I liked SWAT3 better, because the friendly AI is less suicidal. They don't get themselves killed as often as in SWAT4.
EDIT: As for GRAW, I think it really got it right on the individual unit level. Body movement, stances, the ability to use ironsights, etc. Too bad these are put into relatively linear maps with, as you said, improvised squad tactics. Btw, I strongly suggest using a mod that turns off the crosshair (and most of the HUD).

I played the demo last night, it was fun for the most part.
The camera is indeed fucking awful in Assist Off mode, how did this bullshit get past QA?

Ya, could be if I had time for all interesting games, but I'm only marginally into militarist propaganda, so I guess with GRAW, my quite for this genre will be fulfilled for a year or two.
BTW, what sites do you recommend for GRAW mods?
I must admit that in later mission the difficulty has increased. What is a good thing, but now the teammate AI is TOO self-sufficient to the point that they ignore my direct orders and confront enemies even if they are low on health or have inappropriate weapon. I'm bitchin' constantly.

Ghostrecon.net
The developers (GRIN) post there occasionally. One of them made a fairly comprehensive GRAW2 mod in his spare time.

Thanks... I would be particularly interested in mod which would allow me to control all team members separately, but it's a pipe dream I guess...

Because without it HAWX would be just another run-of-the-mill air combat game?
I like it, even if it does take some getting used to.
