You're the last person to be chastising someone for lack of reading comprehension, by the way.
Pot, kettle. What was that about me calling Doom 3 and Bioshock the same game?

Yeah, I'll take my first hand experience of actually playing the demo over the results of your random google search any day.

So wait, what's the difference between playing "assists off" and playing from the cockpit view with expert controls? I think I'm totally misunderstanding what "expert" mode is supposed to be - I guess I assumed something that isn't right then.
I guess I'll grab the demo. For some reason I keep forgetting to.

I really don't know what to say.

After playing the demo, I'm disappointed. The basic gameplay is fun, but the game prevents you from doing any cool maneuvers in Assist On mode and when I'm in Assist Off mode I have real difficulty figuring out which direction I'm aimed in, which makes dogfighting a bitch.

Expert controls makes it possible to stall when in assist-on, but you still don't have absolute freedom of control. It also lets you control your plane in assist-off directly, rather than translating the stick movements. Eg, pulling left makes you roll left, rather than turning 90 degrees and pulling up until you let go (further adding to the confusion). But a lot of maneuvers, such as the slide they teach you in the demo, are nigh-impossible in assist-on.

Thank you for proving my point.

Finally played the demo. I may have to pick this up, it's a lot of fun. Expert controls in cockpit view are awesome, totally what I'd expect from a lite-sim and perfectly playable with the keyboard, which is sweet as hell. Assists-off is uh, incredibly gay. I'm not really sure how else to describe it, as it basically goes from a lite-sim with a nice cockpit cam to CHECK OUT THIS TOTALLY USELESS ACTION CAMERA WHERE WE LET YOU DO SHIT THAT TOTALLY DEFIES THE LAWS OF PHYSICS. As long as there aren't missions that require you to use Assists-Off, I think I'll enjoy it. Missile evasion and target tracking seems much easier from the cockpit camera since you can hit Left-Alt and your HUD will throw up a pile of markers to fly through, plus flares seem to basically work every god damned time. It does seem weird that a near-future plane that can do impossible shit and carries 300 missiles (assuming I'm seeing things right and it's firing 2 missiles at a time) can't carry more than 6 flares. How the god damned hell an F-16 is carrying 300 missiles is a question in itself though.

Multiplayer is supposed to be more realistic, with Assist-On using a less forgiving, more realistic physics model than Expert mode in SP. Also, aircraft will sustain significantly more damage, and carry no more than eight or so missiles at a time. So I'm on the fence. If the multiplayer's realistic enough to be fun, I might get it when the price drops.
