I don't see much comment anywhere about (
http://www.tombraider.com/server.php?action=setCountry&country=United%20States&countryCode=en-US&outputLang=Tr5) Tomb Raider: Underworld, which comes out in a few weeks. Am I not looking in the right places, or is it just due to TR fatigue, or what? I liked the last game a lot (Anniversary), but this new one looks like the best one yet.
To me, it looks like the devs wanted to get back to what made the original game so fun with their Anniversary "re-imagining" of TR1 and now that they've rehabilitated the franchise somewhat they're proceeding as if Underworld is the real, legitimate successor to the original. IOW, I sort of get the impression they're trying to disown the direction the series went in over the last decade and start over.
How about it? Anyone else have an opinion about TR:U, or does no one else care about raiding tombs anymore? Personally, it's my most anticipated game right now (yes, even over Fallout 3).

I bought Legend and Anniversary (for PC) a few months ago after having barrels of fun with their demos. I've yet to really start playing them though. My "to play" pile is stacked quite and other games have greater priority (Eg the aforementioned Fallout 3).
As for the direction that the series is going, Crystal Dynamics more or less reset the TR continuity with Legend. This was likely a good decision though, as the series had been derailed by original developer reportedly. (I've never really played the Core Design originals and don't really care to either. I played a OEM Lite version of TR1 - that was bundled with some video card - back in the day and it didn't grab me.)
I'll likely pick up Underworld sometime, new at retail. Need to support the development of Deus Ex 3.

I´m mostly interested to know how big will be the levels, the graphics, the lightning, the animations, the AI, etc.
Because it seems a lot of the engine used by Crystal in this new game will be also used on Eidos Montreal next game, supposedly Thief 4.
So far I´m playing TB Legend. Very nice landscapes, puzzles and action.
But I think replayability will lack a little once I complete the story since I´m more interested in the narrative than going back and try to collect all artifacts at minimum time.

I'm really looking forward to this; I loved the last 2 games from Crystal Dynamics, and this looks set to continue the high quality.

Legend rekindled my love for the TR series; although the headset chatter did detract from the atmosphere of the game at times.
Anniversary was an excellent remake as it managed to recapture a lot of the magic of the original and melded with that many new and exciting features as well. I'm looking forward to Underworld based on the previous two games and also what I have learnt via the media.

My absolute only criticism of Anniversary was their re-imagining of the T-Rex encounter and turning it in to a more traditional boss fight rather than the frantic encounter of the original.
Otherwise, the game was pretty much a perfect remake in every way.

So, does Anniversary have any radio chatter like Legend? I wouldn't say that your support team ruined Legend, but sometimes I didn't exactly enjoy it. I've had it in the back of my mind to get Anniversary since it was released. Would you guys say it's better or worse than legend?

Yes, yes, but I think we're all missing the important TR:U issue here - do they bounce?
Jason Moyer on 22/10/2008 at 15:12
FFS, glistening is the new bounce. Thx.

I thought the radio chatter is OK.
Because otherwise I would feel very alone in the middle of the ruins, getting a lonely "myst" effect while playing the puzzles. Also it helps to create backstory, mood and humour.
PS: I think the main problem is that your support characters could have more charisma and personality. Lara always overshadows them.
