One thing you could do is set the (global) hilight level, using "highlight_level <some number>" (23 seems to be the default)
Uh, does that actually do anything? The only discussions I can find on it say it doesn't.

It’s working for me. I created "fm.cfg" in my main DromEd directory, containing the line "highlight_level 10". And frob highlights are drastically fainter.

So it works for both DromEd and the game exe?

Hmm. That I don't know. I haven't even got close to trying my mission out of DromEd. I sure hope it works, though—the effect is just what I was wanting.
[edit]Well shit. I don't know.
I copied my "fm.cfg" to my playable Thief 2 folder and loaded an FM. No luck.
I copied the "fm.cfg" file to the FM's fmsel subfolder. No luck.
I copied the line to that folder's "dark.cfg". No luck.
So this only works in DromEd? I hope not. It's a great feature.

Well, you know, I wouldn't have suggested it if it wasn't working (at least for me). If I weren't sure about it working or not (at least in my own tests or if I hadn't tested it before posting), I would have mentioned that. I guess there could be differences between editions, though, so one is probably wise to let the beta testers check this specifically.
By the way, (

Is it working for you when playing your FM using the main executable, or just from DromEd?

He also says "Nothing seems to have any effect".

Mhm, seems like it. It's a shame, but, oh well, it was too good to be true, as they say. Foolishly enough I only tried in DromEd.

Meh, mere hearsay. ;)

Well, thanks anyway!

You're welcome! Sorry for getting your hopes up, though. At least
I got something out of this in that you taught me to always test a new effect at both places (especially before being sassy about it).
