too much improvement can suck, you know ... - by santaClaws

Do you still remember the uproar when Thief2 came out?
"That's no sequel", they wrote, "that's nothing but an expensive mission pack"."No big changes made, recommendable just for fans".
On the other hand, things like this slowfall or invisibility potion were too science fiction to fit into a mid-ages world.
What's bad about a game just being for fans? There's enough of them (at least for DX), who will buy the game the day it comes out, no matter how expensive it is (including myself).
But when I install DX2 and play it for the first time, I want to feel the warm welcome sort of thing, in a familiar world, with familiar characters who didn't change completely since the last time I met them. Furthermore, when I play DX2, but all of a sudden, there's like gun shields available, or Denton suddenly is a master of martial arts, I'd be disappointed. That's not what I think a continued storyline is.
If DX2 won't contain any links to DX (that can only be understood by gamers that already played the first part), then don't call it DX2, I'll buy it and approve of it. But if called DX2, per definition a sequel, it should be a sequel, too. Including all consequences, be they positive or negative.

I completely agree for the most part. I would like to see some more new content than what was added in from thief 2 to thief 1. New weapons, new skills (not a rediculous amount though)...etc...

Yea, have JC possess the skillz he accuired during DX and give us a bunch of new augs and mods. For example a Martial Arts aug; that makes JC kick, punch & throw. And speak in a high-pitched Kung-Fu man voice. "Wooooh! JC KICK YOU ASS! Woo-haa! Ruy-Ken-Hajabusa! HAI! Pika pika... thunderbolt GO!!!" ;)(Very not serious)

I think all developers need to look back at the classic side-scrollers and learn from them. Especially the Quest For Glory series. I loved how, in each sequal, you could use the charcters from the predecessor. Being able to build a character over the coarse of 5 seperate, very long, non-boring games was just too awesome. Of course they added classes on some of the sequals, ect.
I want to be able to import my JC from DeusEx 1 into Deus Ex 2 damnit. Start off from the ending that i picked in the first one and work through it from there. Alot of people might be saying "That is crazy, you would have to write atleast 3 entire story lines." Well, no. Just like Deus Ex was pretty much 100% linear with the exception of where the endings all split apart, just have the beginning of DX2 start with the non-linerarity, and merge them together into the traditional linear story, told in a non-linear way.

The branching plot system is one my favourite details about the game. I also liked the minor characters a lot, with their individual personal histories, and I'd love to see J.C. run into some them of again in DX2. For example, Nicolette. It would interesting to see
Spoiler:
how she had dealt with her mother's death, if she had moved back into that huge mansion or stayed in Paris and continued her political involvements.
