It's actually because if you pick the wrong lighthouse the game adds up all the time you've played it in every reality.
Mainly it was that one female henke who loves shooters with pretensions to art and hates trucking games. She lives in the world where George Bush got three terms somehow so is a little messed up.
Upon discovering this abomination, however, our henke will go on a convoluted journey through alternate realities to drown Ken Levine and save video games.

Because it's a slow Friday and I'm a dick:
Top 10 titles mean % of hours per (as % of each top 10) from respondents so far (median may have been better, not sure):

TTLG time is being thrown at games:

It's probably this.
Yup, I'm gonna go with this.

I always feel like I'm completely missing something when I see people clocking hundreds of hours playing The Binding Of Isaac. Maybe I need to give it another try or something, but I just got bored with it extremely fast.

For me, it's not that the gameplay is so great, it's more the fantastic combinations that you get from extreme randomness and the mix of religious extremism, child abuse and bodily functions.
Plus it's a nice coffee break game. I've probably put upwards of 400 hours into it.

Skyrim: 145 hrs
Dead Island: 111 hrs
Borderlands: 103 hrs
Mass Effect 2: 90 hrs
Dishonored: 88 hrs
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: 85 hrs
Fallout New Vegas: 78 hrs
Rage: 62 Hrs
Resident Evil 6: 49 hrs
Stalker COP: 47 hrs
My list is weird. But I think i did quite a bit of offline playing.
Of the ones up there. I've beaten all of them twice except for Skyrim and RE6. Fallout NV i'm actually on my second playthrough, this time with the DLC, absent from my first playthrough.
Also my games library is about 180 games, and I'll bet 80% of them are at less than 10 hours.
I also call BS, since HL2 shows 4 hours on record, and I've played that game probably 5 times through. These numbers must have reset on a couple of occasions.
