I know that this thread has gone a little off-topic, and that I am a little late in coming to it, but watch DeusEx-Machina.com soon for the next poll. I'm going to ask what people would like to see improved the most in Deus Ex 2. Naturally, I can't provide specific examples, but there will be things like "storyline" and "AI"

Hello all!
Irritate:
1. Sound propagation is very bad. Excellent example of real sound propagation is DarkEngine.
2. NPC movement is worse then in stupid child TV-cartoons. Excellent example of real human movement is DarkEngine games. Optical capture.
3. Why game stop when you go to inventory mode? This lose immersion very much. Can developers make such option in game "continue/stop action"? I prefer continue "game-life" while I brush inventory or look at new image. Excellent example of immersion with "game-live" inventory interface is SystemShock 2.
4. AI very bad. Excellent example of AI is Thief series.
5. Graphics in Direct3D make me sad. (heck, I have GeForce 2MX)
6. Sometimes music similar to pop-dance style.
7. Dynamic music (when alert NPC music changes) cause of lose immersion.
8. In movie mode you see yourself from 3rd-person point. This lose immersion.
9. Sounds in game pretty simple (footsteps, object falling on ground, etc.). Must be more deepest. Need Eric Brosius.
10. Seems me game pretty quick -- goals easy achieves. (but game in whole is long -- its good!)
11. No emotions at all! Your brother (Paul) die.. A you sad? No! I almost forgot about him after his death! Excellent example of emotions is System Shock 2. Remember death of Delacroix? I was very sad. Remember mess-area on Ops Deck where we observe execution of crew people? Tears blind my eyes -- I felt they pain. And so on...
12. Its not all my notes to Deus Ex.
Pretty good:
1. Many options for tune up interface (colors, hot keys for all bars and even crosshair, etc.)
2. Real upgrade of weapons (silencer, laser pointer, etc.)
3. You can receive images and look at it. Health divide to parts of body.
4. Many objects to interact with.
5. Thanks to Warren Spector and ION staff for this intelligent game. This game worth follower of Half-Life, SystemShock2, Thief series.
Send this message to Warren. (just joking)

Ooh, I got one: How about a more sinister-sounding name for the main villain? "JC, you must kill...Bob Page!" Bob Page!!?? Sounds like a car dealership

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gifSeriously though, I agree with most of the comments so far. Most of the augs just aren't essential enough. The ones I use most of the time are recirculator, regeneraion, and ballistic protection. With those three running at once you are just about invincible. The others are usually not worth the bio power.

OKay I am only barely starting the game and I have looked at some other opinions on this matter. The biggest disappointment to me is that this game's best feature is how well it reacts to different actions (i.e. such as the boss reprimanding you for going into the womens' restroom). At the same time, some of the most obvious actions (such as aforementioned killing of civilians) don't bother him.
Along the same lines, you should have more choices in conversations. For example, when I was asked to kill the drug dealer for that subway gang, I was playing a relatively nonlethal Denton (I still am but without much success). Anyway, I figured I'd better warn him. I went to talk to him, but there's really no option to do anything like that. Also, if you start shooting the gang leader, he runs downstairs and after a few minutes you can talk to him again as if nothing happened.
Still, I am loving the game so far... I have just been captured and am awaiting my chance to escape.

I have to disagree with you about the AI. I realize that it did have some annoying bugs, but I found their combat abilities to be quite challenging. The AI almost appears to work in a cooperative method. Example: In one level I played i walked into a room with 5 MJ12 troopers in it. (a stupid mistake) One of them saw me, and immediately alerted the other guards. Four of them opened fire on me and the other went to get help?!! He activated the alarm and i was overwhelmed with fire.
Another note is the AI's reation to damage. It appears that if you mortally damage any the human enemies they will run away to hide from you. Some even set off alarms.

I think they should remove the damn combat knife from the game. I never used it. I took up space in my inventory and was a pain in the A** to remove because nearly every soldier had one.

I think the best way to solve the "unwanted inventory aquisition" problem, so that you can pick up a body without picking up all the items on the body first, and so that you can select which items to loot from the body would be to have a "loot" screen pop up when you right click on the body, that shows you an icon of every item on the body (and an icon of the body itself). Click on an icon to pick it up... easy :)
The AI could do with a few tweaks, I agree that the biggest problem is playing the game stealthily is very difficult since one gunshot alerts everyone to your presence. Take a look at thief, once someone is hit, they start to look for you... Also, it'd be cool if there were a few different ways an AI can react to every situation, so that in one instance, shooting a guard causes him to try and find you and take you down, and in another instance, he may run away and set off the alarm.
The game should incorporate a code of conduct to some extent. Maybe a mission objective such as "don't kill more than 3 civilians" - this was implemented well in thief. If an agent is killing civilians left right and center, activate his killswitch!
Augmentations are diffinitely a big issue. I used almost none of them (flashlight, healing, spy drone). Maybe in DX2, agents could have the kinetic energy their body generates be used to recharge themselves.
Also, I don't like the system for getting augmentations. Why does one aug cannister have two augmentations in it? How about a system where you get ONE aug from a cannister, and can choose whether to use it or not. And then add some more variety, so that, for example, the "skin" augmentation slot doesn't only ever offer advantages to the stealthy player. For example, using the "skin" augmentation slot, you could perhaps find augmentations for invisiblty to robots, invisibility to organics, resistance to bullets, resistance to fire, resistance to toxicity... enough so that if you search hard enough, you'll find the augmentation that is just right for your play style.

I think in DX2 they should allow players the ability to remove or replace unwanted augs. I found some nicer augs later on in the game that I couldnt upgrade to because the slot was taken.

I concur about id software. Their intention seems to be creating a bleeding edge engine for license first and a game second. I'd love to see the Quake 3 { Team Arena } engine for Deus Ex 2. I didn't actually think the Unreal engine was bad, except for the performance problems at the initial release { I bought the game off the shelf the first day it arrived here, and I have a TNT2 graphics card }. There is certainly plenty of eye candy. As forthe Dark engine... how about we use the engine from Catacomb Abyss 3d? <IMG SRC="laff.gif" border="0">
