I'm not tarring everyone with the same brush. There are a lot of Americans on TTLG who clearly have (what I consider to be) good taste. And worldwide. How else could we get The Wire or Breaking Bad?
But there is a significantly sized portion of the population, and I hesitate to call it a minority because I've no idea what proportion it is, that are effectively targeted by all the terrible things that the rest of the world (anecdotal evidence, but I've seen/heard this opinion from multiple people from Africa to Europe to Asia) associates with "Hollywood".
That's why we even have this remake, and why any foreign film that's any good must be re-made as a more glossy but inferior American version.
Meh. I'm still going to the cinema to see it. I know I'll be disappointed but my gf wants to go. I have to show her the original first though.
