Frankly I'm still really unsure about this whole piecemeal approach they're taking with TM2. I guess it's more pragmatic, but TM was amazing in significant part because of the sheer variety of gameplay packed into the box: All those various cars/environments and game types made for an incredible package.
Maybe I have the wrong end of the stick, but this seems more like TM Nations -- one little piece of the picture, and most of the players have no idea what they're missing out on.
To me, it doesn't feel like TM2 yet.
But damn, that's a pretty trailer...

You can only buy it through one e-tailer? What the hell? Fuck Metaboli/Gametap/Gamesplanet.

EFF :o
That's just a show-off map though, right? It can't be an actual race-map because a lot of those roads didn't seem to make any sense. But damn it's big. Damn.

Everything that you cannot comprehend will become a track in trackmania.

The only version that I've played is TM Nations Forever. Is this the same as the one you are talking about?
I loved that version incidentally.

Either version applies. TMNF was the improved version of Nations that was released to accompany TM United Forever, but it was still just the single environment and game type, and not the most enjoyable of either of those things, IMO*. If you enjoyed Nations, you should grab a copy of TMUF sometime, and find out what you've been missing out on all this time!
* I'm sure lots of people think the Race type is the best, and I'm not knocking it, but I always enjoyed Platform the most.

I'm not much of a racing or a TM fan (the handling model seems a bit ergh), but I love that trailer, it's a bloody work of art. Even more phenomenal is the fact that it is in-game footage: you can see the aliasing artifacts, the disappearing skid mark decals, the slight LOD shifts, a microsecond pop-in for terrain textures near the end... and it all still looks brilliant. And probably made almost completely in the game with the movie tools, too. TM's been doing this sort of thing for ages, but it looks like they upped the ante quite a bit this time.

What's the difference in a nutshell (provided it fits in one)? NF has lots of different kinds of tracks, only a few designated Race. I guess that's not the thing.
You might say "try it and see", but I have to baulk at paying for racing games since they're rarely a hit with me, even though I like TMNF.
