(That's quite the mouthful.)
So the release of TrackMania 2 caused me to reinstall TMU and play that instead :)
I was pleased to find that Nadeo's history of awesome customer support had continued to its logical conclusion, such that my copy of TMU not only updated to TMUF (which I already knew), but then again to the more recent "Star Edition" with a bunch of extra official tracks (to complement the bazillion odd available online). I've not had the game installed since before that was released, so I'm looking forward to those.
Once you're patched, you no longer need the original CD, which is also an excellent end result!
I did, however, also install Sunrise purely in order to get its music. I can only presume they left it out of TMU for licensing reasons to keep the costs down, but after playing a bunch of tracks in TMUF I realised that I really did miss the old music.
It turns out it's just a case of dropping the .ogg files into the appropriate GameData\Skins\(environment)\Music\Race directory, and the game will play 'em. Presumably any .ogg file will do, if you want to roll your own soundtrack.
I've just completed all the original Coast races with gold medals (I really liked that car once I got the hang of it), and I'm working through the Platform levels at present.

I dumped Trackmania 1 and Sunrise when I got United, due to the content being all in United, and the fact that they had Starforce. There goes the music. :(
Also, I thought that United Forever didn't have the Coast levels, until your post convinced me otherwise and I checked and saw some scrolling arrows at the bottom of the level selection and found a bunch of stuff.
Now I remember why I hate that car. Is it only available for races though?
Any reason you prefer United to 2? I really like the new focus on ludicrous drifting.

The lack of a Platform mode in TM2 left me unwilling to buy it, basically. I probably would have relented if there was more than one environment, but the combination of the two made me conclude that I'd rather play TMUF. I have some faith that Nadeo will sort out the shortcomings in time, but I'm going to wait until they do before buying it.
I haven't encountered any Coast Platform levels yet, and I feel like there should be more Platform levels in general, but I just can't remember for certain. In my memory TMS had environment-specific series of Platform tracks, just like there are for the Race tracks. Am I just imagining that?

I just got the final gold medal in the Star Track Coast races! I found the third- and second-to-last tracks complete bastards to get gold on, but the last track was much better (still nice and challenging, but not quite so nasty, and also more aesthetically pleasing in its design).
What I really wish there was more of was circuit racing in the Coast car. I really liked that one circuit they provided in the original game, and it seems silly that there aren't more. Maybe I can find a set for download.

I'd do the same, but TMUF seems to still cost $30. So I'll probably just wait for the TM2 bundle.

Are they trying to say that the XBox is like Simon?
Aerothorn: Totally worth the money. But if you can find a copy of plain TMU cheaper, it's a free upgrade.

The highlighted quadrants = the number of controller hooked up to the console.

Maybe on yours. My slim won't cook itself, the redesigned console is rock solid.
