Talk about yer modern grimdark remakes!
I've only played a few Amnesia mods, but this one looks quite high quality!

That mod is basically what Amnesia (and most horror games these days) actually look like to me.

This is a mod for Amnesia, that hews closely to the aesthetic of Amnesia, so yes dethtoll, you have discovered that Amnesia does indeed look like itself.
I know you're always champing at the bit to jump into a thread and play the "no mere video game can compare to
the darkness within my tortured SOULLLL!" card, but really, try to put a little more thought into it when you do, eh?

I don't seem to get what you mean? `splain please?
And thanks for the link, ice! If nothing else, that trailer was BAD ASS! I love that there is finally a means to destroy the haunts in Amnesia. It's a great idea for a mod, "The Trap Door" as a base.
I really can't wait to get set back up to pc game this week. This will be a priority download. Well, after Amnesia itself from Steam.

I especially love their slant on it, within the in-game universe of having the scary trap-door which induces fear etc. Skull is an interesting weapon-ish mechanic.

Your programmers didn't study their manuals all that well when they made you, did they?
Amnesia is a fucking joke. It gets treated as the height of terror, an emotionally-draining horror extravaganza. It's little more than a linear sequence of scares, a cheaply-built $2-a-ticket haunted house populated by goofy-looking duckfaces. Fuck me, (
http://www.srsdeaf.org/HauntedHouse.aspx) the haunted house my old school runs every year does a better job at this, and it's as obnoxiously retro and fake as it gets.
So yes, this mod is exactly what Amnesia actually looks like to me -- a goofy children's show.

a goofy children's show
Well then Dethtoll, my work is done.
Seriously though, The Trapdoor isn't trying to make new ground in terms of visuals: I since it was made in three months, one of the limitations I gave myself was to only use the vanilla meshes from Amnesia TDD. And yes, the story is inspired by a goofy kid's show. However, the whole point of the mod is to re-work the sanity and monster mechanics of Amnesia into something new.
The mechanic works like this: Burke has a "totem-object", his "friend" Boney, which is an inaminate skull that he is obsessed with. Burke's sanity points are affected by many things, but the main one is his distance from Boney. Without Boney, Burke cannot cope and his sanity drains. The monsters spawn only when Burke's sanity drains to a certain level. Boney is a physics object rather than an inventory item, so whilst Burke feels he needs to carry Boney with him, Boney is in fact a burden. This allows for logistical puzzles and resource management and, even if I do say so myself, I don't believe that any other game has ever used this particular mechanic before. If I'm wrong about that, feel free to correct me. Another thing that affects your sanity level is exploration. The mod keeps track of where you have been before and drains your sanity faster if you are without Boney in a new, unknown location. The whole point is to simulate Burke's anxiety and to impart it to the player. So yes, it looks like Amnesia, but it doesn't play like Amnesia.
But hey, don't take my word for it. Here're are some excerpts from (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-trapdoor/reviews) player reviews on ModDb:

Brilliant! I won't waste space here to speak of this MOD, because it simply has to be played to be understood. And once you get a grip on things, you are in for an awesome ride with great puzzles. This is a MUST PLAY!

This was entirely different. And very well done.

Finally, I need to talk about this story's original mechanic. The Boney-sanity mechanic. This is an interesting twist on Amnesia's sanity.

Rest assured, dethtoll's problem isn't with your mod but rather with Amnesia itself. He didn't like it and will take every chance he gets to rage about it. We've been hearing about it for the past 4 years so please don't encourage him further.
The new mechanics in the mod sound interesting though. If I wasn't too much of a coward to delve into Amnesia again I'd check it out!

completely missing the point
Fwoosh!
Amnesia, the base game, looks like a goofy children's show to me -- i.e. it ALREADY looks like Trap Door, because Amnesia is ridiculous and silly. All your mod does is make it obvious to everyone else.
